James J. McKenna, Ph.D. was the first scientist to undertake sleep laboratory physiological studies of both mothers and infants. He directs the Mother-Baby Behavioral Sleep Laboratory and is Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame. One of the leading authorities on infant-parent cosleeping and especially bedsharing, he is a sought-after speaker at medical, parenting and policy conferences around the world. In 2008, Dr. McKenna was inducted into the American Association for the Advancement of Science as a Fellow, specifically for his work on preventing and protecting infants from SIDS.
