Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Ideal for plant identification and selection, this terrific series features immaculate photography (one picture for virtually every entry) and clear, concise text that discusses the physical attributes, native area, and hardiness of each plant. Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
Library Journal
Like the author's first collaboration, Roses (Random House, 1988), this oversize paperback features hundreds of beautiful photographs with text describing the plants' origin and care requirements. This book covers over 1900 shrubs common to temperate regions around the world. The shrubs are arranged by flowering season, with major groups like rhododendrons placed together. Close-up photographs of flowering shrubs are dated so gardeners can get an idea when they will bloom. Some photographs of the plants in their native habitat are also included. The book's layout is easier to use than Taylor's Guide to Shrubs (Houghton Mifflin, 1987) because the text is on the same page as the photographs. This should become the definitive book on shrubs for American libraries.-- Peter C. Leonard, Mt. Lebanon P.L., Pa.
