So many things contribute to women's struggles with weight that no matter what infomercials and celebrities promise on TV, it's never as simple as 1-2-3 to "get it off and keep it off."

That's because the real issue usually lurks beneath the surface—in a woman's heart and mind. No matter how many sit-ups, push-ups, or miles on the treadmill you do, you'll never see honest, life-changing results until you make peace with your inner self and the One who created you—take it from someone who's been there and back several times (and dress sizes!).

Filled with great tips, recipes, advice, and encouragement, The Real Skinny on Losing It is a hilarious and blatantly honest story of Michelle McKinney Hammond's own battle of the bulge and everything she's learned about fad diets, nutrition, exercise, self-esteem, and self-worth along the way. Skinny!

Michelle has a great sense of humor and tells it to you straight up - no sugar-coating it! She not only takes you through some inner healing of the heart, she also gives you her thoughts on different fad diets, exercise and how she feels you should really be living your life - through moderation, combining of different foods and exercise.
Some of the things we war with in life cannot be won by natural means. Their roots go deeper to an invisible place with unseen forces that do their best work through our ignorance. After all other efforts have failed, it's time to look deeper and let God show us the root of the fruit that is showing up in our lives, on our hips, and on our lips. Sometimes we have to get past ourselves to see what's really in the way. The truth hurts, but it's also medicine that can set you free. So don't despise the process. Hang in there, my sister. (pg 83)

This book helped me view my own weight issues in a new and different way. Instead of wallowing in self-pity and doubt, feeling like a failure, this book has lit a fire in me, making me want to lose the extra weight I carry around and keep it off. I am excited to begin my weight loss journey with a new mindset, for the last time. I can see myself incorporating many of the tips provided and making a lasting change in my life

Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    Funny and Insightful

I enjoyed the way the author, Michelle McKinney Hammond, made the book interesting, and the way she explained her struggle with weight and why she felt that women have the problem. I did feel that she kept the writing light, and made you feel she was right there with you on the yo-yo diet wagon. Her "Keeping it Real" comments were exceptionally right on target.

I received a copy of this book from Tyndale to read and review. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

    Entertaining

The Real Skinny on Losing it by Michelle McKinney Hammond was a book that I was excited at first to receive for a review by Tyndale House Publishers. I was a little disappointed after reading the book how the author spent most of her time going over the diets that did not work for her and less on what did. I believe the way the author put so much description into explaining these failed diets, it may for some put more emphasis on them rather than eating a healthy balance and variety of fresh foods.
She is a very spiritual lady and did refer to some good quotes and some recipes. It was fun and entertaining and she does write beautifully, but I would recommend use this book lightly for entertainment purposes only.

*I was under no obligation to provide a positive review ~I was given a complimentary copy from Tyndale House Publishers.

    Fun Book on Weight loss

Michelle's sassy style shines through on every book she writes. In The Real Skinny On Losing It", she offers real talk about issues we women face when it comes to weight.
Michelle shares her story of being a skinny girl and having to to deal with bullies because of it. Then as an adult, hiding under a veil of weight to protect herself from the wrong men. She encourages us to take a look at the real issues of out weight gain- and they lie in our hearts and minds.

Since I'm already a huge fan of Michelle's I knew I would enjoy reading this book. It let's you look deeper into your weight loss issues which is an aspect that I like. I have several diet books so I'll add this to my collection lol. That said, weight loss can be real tough and you must have determination to make the change. If your looking for lighter, more funny approach to it, try this book.

    An Enjoyable Read

"No more volunteering to be a victim of the foods you are eating." The Real Skinny On Losing It is a divas life story about yo-yo dieting. Her failures and triumphs. Her divalicious tips at losing weight and keeping it off. Michelle Hammond lets you join her on a fun spiritual journey through weight loss. With her upbeat attitude you get that, don't be scared girl come on and join the real party! feeling. A completely honest look at weight and women's struggle with it. Michelle gets down to the "nitty-gritty" about losing the pounds all while being healthy. I was pleasantly surprised with this book because, I have to admit, I was on the fence about reviewing it. I thought to myself,, "Eh, just another self help diet book, nothing new." But no, I was definitely wrong! There were elements brought to the table that I didn't even know could contribute to losing weight. Although she made the reading entertaining it did feel like she would ramble on a bit. But my favorite parts were the Keeping It Real and Diva Reflections at the end of each chapter. They gave you the chance to just stop and think and be honest with yourself. And as a woman who has struggled with weight, I certainly see this book as a great tool in helping women change their lifestyle for the healthy. The recipes were a great bonus in the back of the book! Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Real Skinny on Losing It

While this book's title may be reminiscent of another book by a diet mogul, the author's voice is unique. Hammond spends the first half of the book sharing her experience with body image. Her successes and failures are juxtaposed for all readers to see. The concept of yo-yo dieting is dissected, and the author gives her two cents on why she thinks they are unsuccessful. After the reader has come to like the author with her full share of phrases (girlfriend, you know, etc), they take her a bit more serious when she dives into the how of weight loss. Hammond speaks of many popular diets that she used--what she did and did not like. Taking a bit from each one, she tries to encourage readers to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Spiritual fitness is incorporated into the book, as well. Some Bible verses are quoted, and some are only alluded to with footnotes. Also, at the end, there is a short list of recipes from the author herself.
