Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
The other princesses call Regina the really rotten princess, and she feels she has to live up to the name. After their teacher asks them to find a way to capture the heart of a prince through baked goods, the other princesses begin to bake delicious desserts. Regina thinks at first she will bake something really rotten, but then has a change of heart and bakes yummy cupcakes. Then it is decided to sell her cupcakes to the wizards, and she makes a change in her recipe that makes the wizards sick. Her parents’ court wizard, Maldemar, recognizes her when the cupcakes are sold, and he warns his wizard colleagues. But some of them who had already eaten the cupcakes become very ill. Magic spells fly all around the princesses. Maldemar dismisses the spells, and then changes Regina into a cupcake. Cartoon illustrations supplement the text. This book is part of the “Ready to Read Level Two Superstar Series” that provides longer sentences, simple chapter, and high-interest vocabulary words for early readers. Young readers will become reading stars with this format. Reviewer: Annie Laura Smith; Ages 6 up.

Meet the Author

Lady Cecily Snodgrass has traveled to royal courts throughout Europe in a continuing quest for high-paying positions with absolutely no obligations or responsibilities. She is now taking her keen observations of the nobility and their atrocious child-rearing abilities and only thinly disguising them in her tales of the Really Rotten Princess. In her spare time she enjoys collecting the gold and silver dinnerware of her hosts.

Mike Lester is a children’s book writer, illustrator, cartoonist, and animator. His work has been recognized by notable publications such as the New York Times. A father of two, he lives with his wife, Regan, and their dog and cat in a castle with a moat full of unicorns.
