Overview

The first volume in award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Colleen Gleason's International Bestselling Gardella Vampire Hunter Series--in a new and updated edition.

"Sophisticated, sexy, surprising!" - J.R. Ward

"Colleen Gleason's irresistible...series is deliciously dark and delightfully entertaining." --Chicago Tribune

"Gleason's publishing debut...turns vampire stories-and romances-on their ear." --Detroit Free Press

Beneath the glitter of dazzling nineteenth century London Society lurks a bloodthirsty evil...

Vampires have always lived among them, quietly attacking unsuspecting debutantes and dandified lords as well as hackney drivers and Bond Street milliners. If not for the vampire slayers of the Gardella family, these immortal creatures would have long ago taken control of the world.

In every generation, a Gardella is called to accept the family legacy, and this time, Victoria Gardella Grantworth is chosen, on the eve of her debut, to carry the stake. But as she moves between the crush of ballrooms and dangerous moonlit streets, Victoria's heart is torn between London's most eligible bachelor, the Marquess of Rockley, and her dark, dangerous duty.

And when she comes face-to-face with the most powerful vampire in history, Victoria must ultimately make a choice between duty and love.

A Victorian BTVS...literally. Decent read and good story, but frustrating that some chapters are clearly missing their opening paragraphs, as the text starts mid-story. It makes for a confusing read now and again and makes me wonder what else has been left out and what happened to it. Would be nice if this could be addressed and re-loaded, but even with the missing text, this is a fun story. Look forward to more books in the series.

This book is essentially the foundation for the series, so there's a lot of learning and the emotional hardship that will fuel the series.  I shorted one star for lack of character development outside of the protagonist. And another star for the ending. In the last scene with Eustacia, her comment voids the purpose of the book's ending. Had she not made that comment, I'd have wanted to read the rest of the series.

This book brings together my 2 favorite genres. Regency Romance and Vampires. The joining of the two is flawlessly executed by the author! Ms. Gleason can spin a tale that sucks you in and makes you put all other things aside until you know what happens. Victoria Gardella Grantworth is finally out and about in society. She has been in mourning for quite some time. A dark haired, quick witted beauty and very in demand on the dance floor. However, her world of balls, parties, and musicals comes to a screeching halt when her Aunt Eustacia reveals a family legacy. You see, the Gardellas are known in the underworld as Venators. Vampire hunters. Something Victoria does not even know exists. She should be having tea, gossiping, and looking for a husband. Instead, her Aunt wants her to take up the family legacy. I think, at first, Victoria saw this as an opportunity to break free of the restrictions of society. To be free to go about on her own. It was an adventure, but it doesn't have to curtail her life. But she soon realizes that this will change her life completely. Victoria doesnot realize the cost. She will not be able to share this part of her life with anyone. Fantastic characters, a great story line and excitement make this a book I will read again. (this is not the first time I’ve read it ;) ) A great first book in the series.

This is a unique take on vampire hunting, with the central character being a young debutante in Regency England. Victoria would like to concentrate on finding a husband during her first season, but she is descended from the Gardella family, legendary vampire hunters called Venators. So she must choose to do her duty and use the gifts she was born with, plus those she gains by vowing to be a Venator, or refuse the task and have her memory wiped. Complicating matters are the three men in her life: Phillip, who takes her breath away in the ballroom; Max, her stubborn vampire-hunting partner; and Sebastian, a mystery-man who deals with both vampires and mortals. As the Venators try to stop the leader of the vampires, Lilith, from gaining more power, Victoria struggles to lead a normal life. Can she find love when she always has to be on guard with a stake at the ready? This was a great beginning to the Gardella Vampire Hunters series, and I'm looking forward to seeing Victoria's character develop in the rest of the series.

Enjoyable mix of historical fiction with paranormal; some editing mistakes and occasionally the dialog felt too modern but i will definitely read more by this author!

A 250 page free book of a family legacy Buffy the Vampire Slayer tale with a young woman in a Regency England ball gown as a husband hunting/vampire slaying debutante. A tale of Regency tea parties, vampire hunting, betrayal, danger, stupidity, romance, aand a little spicy sex.
