My wife has been looking for a job for the past 1.5 years. This book helped her fix several crucial mistakes on her resume & cover letter. There are templates and examples that really helped. Many useful tips, do's & don'ts, etc. It's simple, straightforward, & no fluff. In this job market everyone is polishing their resumes to get ahead so you need all the help you can get. She finally got a job in a large company. Granted it's only an entry-level position but plenty of opportunities for advancement. Thanks Eugene!
I recently purchased this book to get a little more insight as to what an employer wants and was very surprised at the quality. I've been putting in applications recently and it has convinced me to go over my resume and change some things to make it look better. The book is very simple, to the point, and easy to understand. It also adds in a few light jokes here and there so you won't get bored. It won't take much time to read and realize that you may need to recheck your own resume!
This was a surprisingly captivating read about how to write a resume. I felt like the author was personally addressing his readers and writing to a very broad audience; the advice is good for anyone of any age and experience or education level. While this book will not hold your hand and tell you exactly what to say on a resume it will ask you to prioritize what information you put down and why. By asking you to look at your resume as the employer this book will help you keep it short and concise and stick to the one page rule.
I've always hated preparing a resume and, frankly, have never really put my heart and soul into the process. The time I've just spent reading through The Resume That Gets You Hired has changed all that -- and it wasn't nearly as painful a process as I thought it would be. This manual sheds light on the subject in an enjoyable and conversational coaching style that has me ready to create the resume that will really show me "broken down on a page". Mr. Coppock explains the purpose and goal of a resume, its component parts and how to put them all together. He gives you everything you'll need -- from design and format guidelines to techniques designed to help the job seeker get her resume noticed and acted upon. All those obscure little details like font sizes, bullets and design can really make a difference in getting your resume put at the top of an employer's to-do list. As I read each chapter, I'd think of how my current resume looks and how I can use each of his ideas to make it better, especially his advice on trimming down unnecessary details to let the important facts speak for me. As someone who's submitted many resumes and also browsed through piles of them as a manager, I'm really impressed with this manual and feel it's a worthwhile tool for anyone who's looking to find the job of their dreams -- at any stage in their work careers.
Exactly what was needed! As someone heading back into the work force unexpectedly and frankly, a little nervously, this great little book has done much to alleviate the fears of jumping back into working and showed me step-by-step exactly how to create a résumé that exhibits my strengths well and showcase my strength as a potential employee. Just as I was afraid of, the whole world of Résumé s is much more complicated than when I was young and this contained all of the information I needed to quickly learn what is needed for a more modern résumé. Because so many people are looking for work these days, I knew my résumé needed to be as professional as possible and this gave me the steps to create an excellent résumé that will land me the job that I need and want. Funny thing is, it is also excellent advice for my grandson soon graduating and hitting the workforce himself so it can help you create or revise your résumé whether you are new to the workforce or returning to work unexpectedly in your later years.
This book is an amazing and informative guide to everything needed in creating a powerful resume. I was impressed that the book started from the ground floor of resume building. The book gives you everything from what a resume is and isn't and why. It gives you everything from how to format and design a resume. It also covers each section of the resume such as heading, statement, job experience, education..etc. There is also a chapter covering cover letters. It gives you all the information one needs to tailor a resume to their specific needs.
I got this book to see if it had any information in it that I could pass along to my nephews who are struggling to find a decent job in today's economy. They both have had an excellent eduction and even experience in their chosen fields, but they keep getting looked over for job openings in our area that they are actually highly qualified for. But I think this book on resumes is going to help them gain an added advantage simply from how they present themselves in their resumes. I'm also going to have my niece read it - she recently graduated from high school and can actually use the tips provided to start building her resume during college years. Great information!
