After spending nearly five years apart, the Geto Boys reunited in 1996 and released The Resurrection. Since they were more notorious for their lyrical violence than their music -- only 1991's We Can't Be Stopped, with its stunning single "Mind Playing Tricks on Me," showed the band experimenting musically -- it comes as a surprise that The Resurrection is such a strong album. Although the band never deviates from its standard blood-guts-sex lyrical routine, they have a greater sense of humor throughout the album.
