Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Steve Rogers was not always a superhero. His development into Captain America was due to a special Army experiment called Project Rebirth. He became a super soldier and the First Avenger. As Captain America he fought for justice with the howling commandos against the evil red skull and his HYDRA Army. During the Second World War, Captain America was lost in the Arctic while stopping a plane full of bombs. He sank into the cold ice and was trapped inside the plane and frozen for many years. Finally, Nick Fury the leader of an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. found the plane and created a plan to bring Captain America back to life. Steve Rogers awoke almost 70 years later and Nick had to explain what had happened. Steve spent a lot of time watching news footage to learn what happened while he was frozen in the ice. He also exercised his mind and body so that he would once again be strong. Nick asked him to join a special group of people—a team of superheroes called the Avengers whose mission is to fight for good. Now, Captain America was given a new suit and ready for action. Their first battle was against Loki, Thor's evil brother. Readers will enjoy this level 2 book in the "World of Reading" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
