    Disappointing

I picked this up in the children's section of my bookstore but I have to stay after getting it home and looking at it more closely this really is not appropriate for kids. First off the phrasing and word choices are difficult for young kids to understand. I think it's better suited to say at least the High School level. Also, several of cartoon illustrations include full nudity, again not appropriate for kids (ex. Adam & Eve where most books would use leaves or long hair) Finally, I would hope that someone drawn to writing a children's version of the Bible would do so because they hope to inspire children to understand this holy book and the lessons that God teaches us through them. Instead it is more of a tacky cartoon.

I am not a poet by any means so Muirden's skill at coming up with creative verses is impressive. I just wish this skill had been paired up with a love and reverence for these stories. On page 146 entitled 'The Birth of Jesus' provides a side by side comparison of the birth of Jesus in both the book of Matthew and Luke. It is prefaced with:
'The stories Luke and Matthew tell don't fit each other very well. Few people are aware of this-most versions are a synthesis...'

That maturity needed to consider all the variables of why the two stories are different (translation issues, examples of how two accounts of one event can be different but both accurate, etc.) is far beyond a child's level. This might be an interesting way for an adult to review Bible stories but this book is not appropriate for children, especially young ones for all of the reasons listed above. Very disappointing.
