This is my favorite book of the series. I loved every minute of it. I especially liked the message I got from it. God is in control of our lives, and even when we can't see a way out, He's always beside us leading the way. He will never leave me or forsake me. Never. Great book!!!

    Great ride!

I really enjoyed all three Lake Manawa Summers books, but this one was probably my favorite. I felt like the characters all grew and that circumstances were resolved in a more realistic way. A fabulous summer read with good Christian themes (that weren't sickening or too in-your-face). I'm just sad that it's apparently the last one in the series-- I loved spening time at Lake Manawa!

Lorna Seilstad won me over in Making Waves and A Great Catch wit

Lorna Seilstad won me over in Making Waves and A Great Catch with her combination of humor, hard-hitting questions, and a charming setting at a turn-of-the-century lakeside resort. The Ride of Her Life completes the Lake Manawa series in the same delightful manner.

Great book by a great author, great series!  --

Lilly Hart has taken her six-year-old son, Levi, and left her in-laws home. In the three years since her husband has been gone she has gotten fed up with their intrusiveness and trying to send Levi off to a boarding school, which his dad had hated and did not plan on doing with Levi.

Lilly takes a job as cook in a Midway diner in Lake Manawa, she is hired before the season starts so she can feed the workers that are building the Red Velvet Roller Coaster. Levi makes friends with Nick, the designer of the coaster and can hardly wait to ride it when it's finished. Lilly tries to avoid becoming friends with Nick and refuses to ride the coaster or let Levi get his hopes of for a ride.

Claude Hart, a prominent attorney in town, Levi's grandpa, wants to cause problems for Lilly and Nick, since he is a good friend of Levi's. He will do anything to get Levi taken away from Lilly, even cause someone to die, if that's what it takes.

I just can't say enough about this series, I found it totally entertaining! Of course it helps that I am familiar with the area and have driven through the Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lake Manawa area countless times and have stopped in Lake Manawa many, many times. Yes, it is completely different now but I enjoy reading about areas I know. Another thing who doesn't like reading about summer vacations, spending a whole summer on the lake with an amusement park? I would suggest this book to anyone that likes a fun read with a little twist.

The Ride of Her Life is the conclusion of Lorna Seilstad's Lake

The Ride of Her Life is the conclusion of Lorna Seilstad's Lake Manawa Summers series. It is the third book in the series and continues to entertain readers who are looking for great Christian fiction with a historical setting. Set in 1906 this book takes up the story of Lilly Hart, a widow determined to provide for herself and her young son despite the interference of her in-laws. Seilstad strikes a good balance between Christian principals and the realism of life. Her characters are three dimensional with personality and feelings, that readers will see on each page. A great conclusion to a rewarding series.

Lorna Seilstad returns with another great story, set at Lake Manawa. The previous books in the series also take place at this wonderful locale and readers will enjoy returning to this turn of the century time period in book three. Readers were first introduced to Lilly Hart in book one and now she has her own story to tell. One of the things I particularly like about this series is that the heroes and heroines from all three books appear in the other books. They can each be read as a stand alone, but there is definitely enough connection that readers know the books are related.

Seilstad has a way of writing her characters that will attract the reader. And this book is not an exception. Lilly is a resourceful young woman who knows the value of hard work. Lilly has a young son to provide for and wealthy in-laws who would prefer a more refined approach to his upbringing including boarding school. It's been three years since her husbands death and Lilly wants some freedom. She wants to live her life and raise her son as she sees fit. I liked her resolve and her need of independence.

Nick is such a great character. I loved the fact that Seilstad gave him a challenging career and personality. I certainly would never have thought of a roller-coaster designer as a hero in a Christian fiction book. That gave it a sense of novelty that was appealing. Nick is also very determined and he doesn't give up easily. Perseverance in this case it what it takes to make Lilly forget her fears and learn to trust again. Nick was willing to stand up for Lilly and her son and that made all the difference in my opinion. Readers will love Nick's attitude and the way he cares for those he loves.

Levi is of course the star of the show in my opinion. Lilly's six year old son is a typical boy. He loves bugs and creepy crawlies and finds himself in some comical situations. Seilstad gave a Levi a zest for life that is contagious as you read about him. He sees the world from a simple and innocent perspective that will tug at the readers heart strings. I thought he really made this book.

This is the conclusion of the Lake Manawa Summers series and I think Seilstad did a great job of wrapping it up. She was able to bring out her theme of trust for this novel well. She doesn't beat the reader over the head, but allows her Christian message to seep into the fabric of the book. The relationship between Lilly and Nick is sweet and tender and realistic for the time period. I liked a lot of things about this book including the sense of laid back summer holidays and fun things like rides and water sports. It gave this book and the series a lazy summer day kind of feel that was just what I wanted.

    Saying Goodbye

Lilly Hart is working her fingers to the bone and taking care of her 6 year old son Levi! Her husband Ben died in a tragic train accident, and her in-laws want to take Levi and send him to boarding school. They start the book living in a tent at Lake Manawa.
This is the third book in this wonderful series! I hate to see it ending! All of our friends are back, and we spend some time with them. There is also a new character....Nick Perrin. He is building a new roller coaster at the Lake, and trying to capture Lilly's eye.
Sparks will begin to fly...even in the kitchen!! Loved it! Of course delightful Levi will keep everyone hopping with his six year old enthusiasm. Don't miss this wonderful read, and conclusion to this great series!

Thank you Revell Publishing for letting me review this book, there was no other compensation, and I was not required to give a positive review.

Summer of 1906 adjustments in life

It is 1906 and summer is coming soon. The trolly to Lake Manawa is waiting to take folks to the Lake to enjoy the water and the thrilling rides. A brand new roller coaster is being built and it will surely draw the customers. The lake has already drawn Lilly Hart and her six-year-old son, Levi. What kind of ride will Lilly take? About the book: The only man pragmatic Lilly Hart needs in her life is a six-year-old. Widowed for three years, Lilly has decided to leave the home of her intrusive in-laws to stand on her own. However, her in-laws find her new life as a cook at Lake Manawa utterly unsuitable for their grandson. When an argument ensues, a handsome stranger--who designs roller coasters, of all things--intercedes on her behalf. But Lilly is not about to get involved with any man, especially this cocky gentleman. Little does she know she is about to begin the ride of her life. Filled with the sweet romance of summer, The Ride of Her Life will have you laughing out loud and sighing contentedly as you spend the summer of 1906 at Lake Manawa. My thoughts: This is a totally enjoyable read and each of the characters captures your attention and your heart. I fell completely in love with Lilly's son, Levi, who is totally a snake and bug loving boy. The scrapes episodes in which he is involved will win your heart. His need for an adult male in his life since his father is dead is evidenced by his total rapture with the handsome stranger who designed and is building the huge roller-coaster. Lilly's deceased husband's parents are wealthy and they imperiously demand that they be in control of Levi's life and demand to be allowed to send him away to boarding school - to better prepare him for life as "their" grandson. Lilly instead desires to raise Levi without interference from them. Lilly must face her fears before she can begin to really face life. She must learn to trust. And she must learn to love again. A Roller Coaster of a Story!

This is a sweet story of persistence winning over fear. Nick is a man of persistence who gets what he wants. Lilly, on the other hand, has allowed her past to bring fear into her life. The love story is a roller coaster ride of progress and dips and dives in the relationship and Lilly’s learning to trust. The characters are consistent and well-developed. The story line has enough fun and turmoil and even a couple of “bad guys” to keep it interesting. A fun, read with a lesson to learn. Although this is the final book of a trilogy, it will stand on its own well.

4.5 stars! Summer Fun in Book Form!

Oh where, oh where do I begin? How about with this...The Ride of Her Life is fun, romantic and sure to satisfy everyone who is a fan of this series and bring new fans on board? Yep, I think that just about says it all but since I need to write a review with just a little more substance I'll type that Ms. Lorna Seilstad has the knack for writing a great Christian story. Her characters are so full of life and flavor, especially Nick who just adds the right amount of spice to rock Lilly Hart, our heroine's, world - in the cleanest sense of course! ;-) Even the secondary character's like Miss Eugenia, Lilly's rather inexperienced kitchen helper, added to this tale about friendship, love and the huge issue of trust. I really appreciated the fact that most of the people weren't overly exaggerated, meaning they weren't completely good and righteous or terribly evil. There was definitely a "true to life" balance that I liked. I was so glad to see that Marguerite and Emily from Making Waves and A Great Catch didn't fall off the radar and were a big part of this story too. When all's said and done this is a wonderful conclusion to the series and I will miss Lake Manawa. Good stuff!
*I received my complimentary copy from the publisher at the author's request. I am an "influencer" for the author but I wasn't obligated to provide the above review and wouldn't have done so if I could not have honestly said that I enjoyed the book.*
