For the general reader, as well as the scholar, The Rig Veda will be a source of constant interest and pleasure. Professor O'Flaherty's translation is sound and eminently readable, allowing the hymns to yield up their beauty and their wisdom.

The Rig Veda is meant to puzzle, surprise, and challenge the mind. The hymns in O'Flaherty's translation do just that. It is a beautifully poetric book. The Rig Veda should be read several times because one reading only scratches the surface. There are so many symbols and antecdotes. Some hymns I found most interesting were the Creation Hymn, Aditi & the Birth of the Gods, and the Burial Hymn. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
