Overview

A glacial volcano awakens with a series of eruptions, ensnaring ex-cop Hobson in a bizarre murder investigation involving a road-weary homicide detective, a brutal pimp, and a homicidal sheep farmer. As Hobson falls in with a group of enigmatic tourists trying to survive the volcanic aftermath, the chase for a killer pushes them all to the watery edge of the inhabitable world.

About the Author

Edward Weinman spent nearly one fourth of his life as an expat on Iceland, enduring many long, dark, cold, windy and gray winters. But he made it out alive, having suffered only one nervous breakdown. His debut thriller, The Ring Road, is born out of his life in Reykjavik where he worked as a travel writer. It’s the first novel in the 66 Degrees North Series, a collection of thrillers set in Iceland that examine how extreme isolation can trend us towards violence, and how the absence of forgiveness can degrade us. Edward also co-wrote the film A Little Trip to Heaven, a psychological thriller starring Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner and Julia Stiles, which screened at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

I met Edward Weinman, the author of The Ring Road: A 66 Degrees North Novel, in 2001. He was a feature writer of "The Daily Life" column on The Iceland Review website. His first novel The Ring Road is a tribute to a writer whose career is worth following. The Ring Road advertises itself as a 66 Degree North novel, presumably the first in a series. In this first outing, he has covered a broad swath of Iceland. I am curious to see what other stories he has up his sleeve.
