Third in the I Am Number Four series finds our superpower alien heroes scattered and on the run, searching for answers and captured friends. The Loriens can only be killed in a particular order by a powerful rival race, or if they are all together. John Smith/Number Four is working with aggressive Nine and dreaming of evil Mogadorian general Setr?kus Ra, who captured his nerdy best friend Sam and ex-girlfriend Sarah. Meanwhile, hot and tough Six is teamed up with the healer Marina/Seven and the newly discovered Ella, long lost Number Ten. Six, Seven, and Ten meet Number Eight in India; he has been hiding out and pretending to be a form of the Hindu god Vishnu, which must be offensive to somebody. Lore’s (really, James Frey and Jobie Hughes, presumably) series is far more entertaining than it has any right to be. Interactions between characters are the best part, although they are overshadowed by constant running, fighting, and lengthy discussions while waiting for the next fight or more running. There is so much mythology from the previous books it is hard to tell characters apart, especially when John, Marina, and Six swap narration duties. Ra’s presence gives us an appropriately epic villain, but the story gets weighed down with so many indestructible super characters. Heroes are much more interesting when they bruise. The authors are gifted at dragging everything out, but hopefully an end is in sight. Ages 11 to 18.
Children's Literature
This is book three in the "I Am Number Four" series. In this book, Four and Six have found even more of their Garde...including a number Ten that nobody even knew existed. Four and Nine are working their way across the United States trying to figure out where the government and the Mogadorians are located and how they are working together. Six has gone off to Spain to find Seven, which is also where she found the unknown Ten and her Cepan. Together Six, Seven, and Ten go to India where they have a feeling that another of the Garde is hiding. When they get there Eight tests them before joining the group. Once they have Eight they start to try to use a magical portal to get back to the United States to join up with Four (and Nine even though they don't know about Nine yet). This book is one adventure after another. It is amazing how many times the members of the Garde face death and walk away. Although predictable, readers who enjoy fast-paced action plots will enjoy the concise descriptions that lead up to each battle. Seeing how the book ends with Five still missing (who is hinted at multiple times throughout the book), there is sure to be another book in this series, at which time we will probably see if the Garde will overcome Setrakus Ra and his desire to destroy the world. The reviews heretofore predate the novel's release. Fans of the series,
including me, expected a lot of Rise of Nine. It fell well short of my
expectations. Gone is the heroism of the lead character John Smith; he
spends much of the book brooding and getting bullied by the title
character. "Nine" lacks the noble qualities of the other
Lorien--he expresses contempt for humans and argues that the Loriens
should abandon their princiipa human allly. I'm not sure how he rises in
keeping with the title. My major criticisms of this installment center
on poor character development, a plot that, for all the excitement
doesn't get very far, the disappearance of my favorite character Sam
from the story, and an ending that doesn't wind the story down. Indeed
the book doesn't end as much as the author simply broke off writing
without fallling action. Rise of Nine conspicuously lacks the epic
qualities that make the series so appealling. The fourth novel in the
series will have to carry extra weight to make up for the slightness of
this installment. Can the author bring back the soaring quallity of the
first two novels, or will the characters and action remain stuck in a
rut? I'll await the fourth book eagerly, but if it is more like the
third than the first, more discerning readers will move on to
    better-written series.

    Not worth it

I enjoy the concept of this book, but is very poorly written. The dialogue between characters is so stupid and frustrating. Who cares which girl you have a crush on! Secondly, stop being so wishy-washy and pick. It's hard to follow as it jumps from one characters thoughts to the next. Save your money, or if you must read it, wait until it's available at the library.

Pittacus is the main elder on the other planet. So she should be able to make the release date of the rise of nine sooner!

    FAVORITE BOOK IN THE SERIES!!!!!!!

This book was absolutely my favorite in the series and maybe my favorite book Iv'e ever read! There was so much action ans suspense throughout the entire thing book. I really liked how the Garde really came together and tested their strength against all the Mogadorian soldiers and there leader. They almost didn't make it through but they pulled it together to make a stand. There were many challenges with coming together but they made sure that they made it. This book was over all an amazing installation in the series and i am very excited to read the rest of the series when they come out!!!

    Hi

This book is, so far, my favorite. All the the chapters are action packed and full of suspense. And I can't wait to finish it and read the next three books when they come out! This series is pretty amazing. I usually don't read scifi or books with aliens, but these books are so different from the few cifi books I've read. I'd reccomend this to teens who don't or do like scifi.

P.S. To the person who said it was a new author, it's not. There were two authors, James Frey and Jobie Hughes, who wrote I Am Number Four amd The Power of Six. Now it's just James Frey.

    Eh

This book didnt impress me as much as the others did it wasnt suspensful, it was just kind of boring in the end. The new author didnt send any good messages through tthis book. It was all just kind of predictable theyfound no chimera and no number five which highly disappointed me
Dont get me wrong this book was good. But i was just quite disappointed in the new author.

    Audio:
There were three narrators for this book. Only one did a good job. Neil Kaplan voiced John. He made him sound like a complete whiner. Okay, okay...John is somewhat of a whiner but not all the time. He has his moments of strength and valor and I heard none of that come through in Kaplan's narration. It was John's chapters that also included Nine. Nine I think could be a great character but again Kaplan's narration failed miserably for me. Nine was made to sound like a doped up surfer 'dude'. I cringed most of the times his character spoke.

Marisol Ramirez narrated Six's chapters. I love Six, I think she is the best character in this series. However, Ramirez botched the reading. Her inflection was completely off and none of the feistiness of Six was heard.

On the other hand, Devon Souvari who voiced Marina did quite a good job. Subsequently, her chapters became my favorites.

    Story:
The story on The Rise of Nine is exactly what I've come to expect from the Lorrian Legacies. It was action packed with just the right amounts of sentiment and snark and, of course, cheesiness.

It picks up with John and Nine roaming away from the Mogodorian base and Six heading back from Spain with her new companions.

We learn much more about Nine, Marina and Ella and are introduced to yet another member of the Garde. And what a fun addition to this eclectic family he is. The dynamics between Garde members was entertaining to read (hear). They are so much like siblings, bickering and bantering, but when the fighting starts they are like a cohesive unit. New legacies are discovered, new friendships formed and a new determination is solidified amongst them all.

I hate giving away spoilers and this is a difficult book to review without giving anything away, so I will keep it short. If your a fan of the series, you won't be disappointed by this edition.

All that being said, I will not be continuing this series via audiobook. I feel like I missed a lot by not reading it. Lesson learned on this one.

    I Read The Boooks

I thought the "The Rise of Nine" was so cool. I read all three books and I'm waiting for the next book because the author left me on a really bad cliff hanger that makes you think " No don't end yet tell me more"! This has been the best book i have ever read!
