Overview

The Romance of Lust is the first-person story of Charlie Roberts, the most famous hero of the Victorian sexual underground. An eye-opening look at the twisted paths eros takes when a society goes too far in repressing the sex drive. The novel begins with “There were three of us — Mary, Eliza, and myself.” Charlie describes his sexual initiation as an adolescent — as he is “approaching fifteen”. He catalogs his sexual experiences including incest with his sisters Eliza and Mary, sex with his governesses, and his later sexual exploits with various male and female friends, and acquaintances.

Meet the Author

Questions of authorship exist for this novel, and there are two likely candidates, William Simpson Potter, and Edward Sellon. Sellon is the author of other erotic novels and a book on snake worship, whereas Potter wrote and had privately printed two books of letters on the Prince of Wales’ visit to India in 1875–1876. From examining the text in Letters from India during H. R. H. the Prince of Wales visit in 1875–6, from William S. Potter to his sister, one could make a stronger case for Potter, as there are similarities in writing style between the book of letters and The Romance of Lust. Ashbee asserts that Potter acted as editor to contributions by a number of aficionados.

This book was over 1,000 pages and I couldn't hardly put it down. Definately erotica, so not for the faint of heart. Great value!

This book started out okay - especially if you're open minded and don't mind the taboo topics. This is definitely erotica, which I enjoy. However, after 500 pages of the same positions repeated over and over and over and over again I had to put it down. The only difference from scene to scene is the people involved and even then the main character is in 98% of them. So, repetitive, to say the least.

Should have read the intro. Didn't realize this was gonna be so... foul. I knew it was erotica from Victorian times, not incestual. Needless to say, I stopped reading about 2 lines in. Wish I could get my money back. :( I gave it 1 *, because I had to give it something.

This is a book that should be removed from the website. It has very graphic scenes that are illegal in every state. It probably is illegal to own. I have deleted by down load since you could be arrested for positional.
