Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Blair Sanderson
Fans who have been collecting Lang Lang's albums for a number of years should look closely at this 2014 Deutsche Grammophon twofer, because these Rachmaninov recordings are likely to be in their libraries already. The concert recording of the "Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor," performed with Yuri Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, was originally released by Telarc in 2002. That said, there are undoubtedly many who are discovering Lang Lang for the first or second time, for whom such a collection is a real convenience that brings some of his most popular recordings into one blockbuster package. The two piano concertos and the rhapsody recommend themselves because of their fame, so less obvious choices for newcomers to sample would be the "Trio" (track 30), the "Prelude" (track 31), and the "Sonata" (tracks 35-37), to hear some of the subtler aspects of Lang Lang's artistry.
