Meet the Author

I wrote about robots. When I was a kid, my first story was about robots that looked like people: the only survivors of a world-wide nuclear war. What can I say? I grew up in the 70's.Since then I've sculpted all manner of stories about all sorts of topics. Science Fiction and Fantasy still remain favorites of mine and, usually, what I can express in speculative fiction I'd rather not express in other formats.I love short stories and am working on making this writing bug that I've harbored for so many years finally work for me.Here goes nothing.

    Breaking Away ~ Chapter 5

"All FrostClan cats old enough to catch their own prey, please gather below High Boulder!" Fawnstar's yowl rippled across the clearing. Rosekit quivered with excitment as she watched the tawny leader address the clan. Fawnstar's eyes were warm as she continued,"We have gathered here today for the ceremony of 4 apprentices. Flamekit, Tigerkit, Petalkit, and Rosekit, please step forward," the leader beckoned the four kits to join her on High Boulder. Rosekit cautiouslt stepped in the crevices that were carved into the rock, and after a moment, she had reached the top. Up on High Boulder, Rosekit could see the whole camp, and all of the cats! She saw the elders, Rainfern and Shellfur, listening to the meeting near the nursery. She also saw Firethorn, Dustybreeze and Fallowheart, huddled together. Rosekit then saw her mother and father, watching her and her siblings proudly. Fawnstar continued the meeting,"Flamekit, please step forward," Rosekit watched as her russet-furred brother stepped forward to face the leader,"From this moment on, you shall be known as Flamepaw," Fawnstar declared,"Your mentor will be Dustybreeze," At the sound of her name, Dustybreeze sat up. Fawnstar beckoned the brown warrior with her tail,"You are a loyal, knowledgable warrior, Dustybreeze. I trust that you will teach young Flamepaw well," Dustybreeze dipped her head, touching noses with her apprentice. After they finished, Fawnstar beckoned Tigerkit,"Tigerkit, from this moment on, you shall ne known as Tigerpaw, apprentice to Thrushdapple," Thrushdapple, the deputy, confidently stepped forward, touching her pink nose to Tigerpaw's,"Thrushdapple," Fawnstar mewed,"You are a very loyal deputy, and possess many skills. Teach these skills to Tigerpaw," Thrushdapple dipped her head as she and Tigerpaw stepped back. "Petalkit," Fawnstar mewed,"Until you recieve your warrior name, you shall be known as Petalpaw, apprentice to Silverlion," Fawnstar beckoned to Silverlion with her tail. The silver and orange tom lept onto High Boulder, touching noses with Petalpaw,"Silverlion, you are experienced and wise. Teach Petalpaw your skills," Silverlion nodded proudly. Then, it was Rosekit's turn. The tiny brown she-cat quivered with excitment as her leader waved her forward. She stepped closer to her, looking out at her clan, FrostClan,"Rosekit," Fawnstar mewed,"From this moment forward, you shall be known as Rosepaw, apprentice to Firethorn," Rosepaw purred happily. She knew Firethorn, he had played with Rosepaw and her siblings when they were kits. He was very kind, and would make an excellent mentor,"Firethorn, you are good-hearted, and knowledgable, teach your first apprentice well," Firethorn bent to touch noses with Rosepaw, his eyes filled with pride. Rosepaw purred,"I try my hardest," she promised. "I know you will," mewed Firethorn. Rosepaw flicked her tail happily, as all of FrostClan chanted her new name. Rosepaw.... Rosepaw.... Rosepaw.... ~Liv
