Even though this is a rough guide, I didn't like this book that very much and I took some stuff to be a little offensive. I am Vietnamese-American and bought this book because I wanted to brush up on my Vietnamese. A lot of the word pronunciations in the brackets weren't even close to the actual word. No offense, but if I was a non Vietnamese trying to learn this language, I would be so lost. I only recommend this to a person with some knowledge of the language beforehand. Also, some of the names in the food section didn't make sense. For example, Pigeon: according to the book, CHIM means PIGEON, which is a LIE. Chim can mean any kind of bird, and I have never heard of any Vietnamese eating a pigeon, which I found that to be offensive. The positives of this book would be that the cover is very beautiful and they put english-vietnamese, and then vietnamese-english in alphabetical order which made it easier to find words.
