This study is centered on the works contained in the 1846 publication America poética. Through close readings of the poems, Bush (Hispanic studies, Vassar College) develops the opinions they reveal of the religious and political struggles that took place in Mexico, Central, and Latin America during the 18th and 19th centuries.
