Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Bonita Herold
Frankie and his friends Charlie and Louise love soccer more than anything. They want to play at every opportunity—even if it means playing with Frankie’s snotty brother, Kevin. But he thinks they are children and refuses to play with them, despite the fact that they are every bit as good as he, if not better. He and his friends even make fun of Frankie’s dilapidated-looking ball. But the truth is they do not need a fancy, new ball to play well. Who needs a fancy $50 ball when the alternative includes a trip to Rome? That is, indeed, what when a strange, old man gives them the ball at a carnival. Weird and interesting things just start happening! With their usual skill and a little bit of luck, Frankie, Charlie, and Louise will beat the Rowdy Romans and avoid getting eaten by Ferox, the lion. The “Frankie’s Magic Soccer Ball,” written by English soccer star Frank Lampard, series provides just enough intrigue to fascinate a second or third grade boy. Reviewer: Bonita Herold; Ages 7 to 9.

Hott Synopsis: Frankie and his team travel back in time to only

    Hott Synopsis:
Frankie and his team travel back in time to only to play a death match in Ancient Rome – at least it’s soccer and not gladiators!
His four man team – well, 2 guys, a girls, and a dog – may be good can can they best the Romans and avoid being lion chow?

    Hott Review:
It’s no secret that my family loves soccer but even I wouldn’t recommend a book I didn’t love – even when written by a soccer player!
This book is perfect. It has short fun chapters and plenty of action. I didn’t have any trouble following along but I also watch soccer daily. This is a great book for reluctant reading athletes!
