Excellent enewspaper, but I live on the East Coast (EST).

I subscribed to this enewspaper for several days and I really liked it. The formatting is among the best I've seen. The articles are concise (a major plus for me). The only problem I had is that I didn't receive it until after 7am EST. Makes sense, when you think about it, as that's 4am PST. If I lived on the West Coast, I would have maintained my subscription. But since I live on the East Coast, I cancelled my subscription in favor of an East Coast enewspaper. My work day starts at 7am EST and I wish to read today's news with coffee prior to starting the workday.

    more from this reviewer

    Enjoyable read

This was my first eNewspaper trial and I originally stopped it before the 14-days were up. While sampling other publications I found myself wishing I hadn't stopped the SJMN. It is a great read with in-depth enjoyable content with most of the content external to SJ. I'm glad I restarted my subscription!

    Need more work

Comparing to the actual hard copy newspaper, this e-version still lacks many features. It is fine if one just wants to read headline stories.

Not a substitute for the "real" thing, yet

I was quite hopeful when I sampled a Sunday edition of the Merc. Having been a faithful subscriber and reader of the paper, I thought I'd give the e-version a try, given how much I have enjoyed using my Nook Touch for reading novels. Very disappointing. No pictures, and even missing charts that articles refer to make this version a poor substitute. I was hoping to gain the advantages of e-paper, by not having to spend time gathering up the scattered pieces to recycle them. Also avoiding missed deliveries or having to have a neighbor pick up the paper for me on the numerous times that my vacation hold was ignored. I still have high hopes, and think this just needs some "baking", before trying again.

    Great Paper / Wrong coast

I love the Mercury News and subscribed for its tech coverage and the Bay Area buzz. Unfortunately my Nook subscription arrives after I leave for work at 8am on the East coast. I still enjoy the articles even though I'm always a day behind.

A great newspaper for local news.

I just got my first edition yesterday. I'm thrilled that I can now get some local news on my Nook Tablet. I am really enjoying it. So much to read about what's going on. Very easy to navigate. Well done.

    Wow, auful!!!

I just bought my first reader and to try it out I got a sample of SJMN.

I have been a fan of the newspaper since living in the Bay Area, and have missed when I moved out of state ten years ago.

I have to say that the eversion for my new Nook is truly dreadful. It is not possible to navigate throught the pages except sequentially. And where are the cartoons? I wanted to see Dilbert in eink.

    A very good paper but.....

It is a pleasure to read the S.J. Mercury News and even although I gave it only 3 stars I'll continue to read it for now. This is my first e-newspaper on my Nook and am finding the transition difficult. I do like not having sheets of advertising. I miss the jokes, weather, ski report etc and I miss being able to scan the paper for interesting articles before I settle down to read. Still I do get a concise summary of yesterday's news.
