Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Johnny and Tim, best friends, are happily playing in the sandbox when their teacher asks them to let Kylie play with them. When they will only let her watch, Kylie starts to cry and knocks over part of their game. Johnny pushes her away, so Mrs. Smith sends the boys back inside. Meanwhile Kylie finds it is no fun playing alone. "It's not fair!" they all say. Mrs. Smith agrees. Part of the "Making Good Choices" series, the story, and the series of provocative questions that follow it, are springboards for discussion. Archbold's scratchy ink and watercolor drawings focus on the activity, with the sandbox as the primary center. The characters, although a bit cartoon-y, are naturalistic enough to involve one emotionally in their very typical child-like interactions. A glossary and a bibliography are included. 2005 (orig. 2001), Picture Window Books, and Ages 4 to 7.
