Overview

"There's an artful, edgy rebellion being waged in the funny pages, and one of its brightest revolutionaries is Stephan Pastis." —Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"The cartoon Pearls Before Swine is written by a psychopath." —reader complaint, Wichita Eagle

This collection of Pearls Before Swine makes a happy return to home and hearth as only these scamps can. An iconic portrait that captures the essence of modern life, Pearls Before Swine is a heartwarming American original.

A gifted storyteller with a sick sense of humor, Stephan Pastis is rapidly becoming a master of the cartoon art form. His pearls of wisdom are sly and subversive, smart and shocking. And incredibly funny.

It's a jungle out there. The only way to survive is with friends, a thick skin, and, a good dose of cynicism.

* A sense of humor, along with a little animal instinct, is just what The Saturday Evening Pearls offers.

* Pearls Before Swine was named Best Comic Strip in 2004, and again in 2007 by the National Cartoonists Society.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
A Texas newspaper once called "Pearls Before Swine" creator Stephan Pastis "one of [the] brightest revolutionaries…. [of an] artful, edgy rebellion being waged in the funny pages." While we don't discount those accolades, we prefer to think of Pastis' winningly irreverent satirical cartoon as just plain funny. The "Pearls Before Swine" menagerie of Rat, Pig, Zebra, Goat, and Crocodile antagonists have been keeping us giggling ever since they were first introduced at the dawn of the new millennium. This paperback original shows that they haven't lost their zest.

Pearls Before Swine's Stephan Pastis scores another big success!

SATURDAY EVENING PEARLS is another winning compilation of recent strips from the wonderful "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip. Mr Pastis' quirky and funny characters make this a wonderful read for all ages.

Sometimes darkly satirical, other times touchingly pulling at the heart strings, makes the strip always unpredictable. The comic's classic characters, rat, pig, goat, zebra, the crocs, and guard duck, are joined in "Saturday Evening Pearls" by a new cast member, Andy the dog. His optimistic viewpoint of life brings one empathy rarely found in the comic strip world.

There are many laugh-out-loud moments throughout the book. I can't recommend this book more highly.
