Book Two in The Scars Series is available now at

Kaiya Marlow has always been cautious, precise in every decision she makes. When her dark past threatens to resurface, she decides to take precautions to protect herself by enrolling in self-defense classes at her gym.

Her instructor, Ryker Campbell, is the tattooed womanizer everyone warns about. Kaiya attempts to resist Ryker's advances, but the more time they spend training together, the harder it is for Kaiya to resist him.

Ryker's view on relationships is simple: strictly sex, nothing more. Haunted by demons from his past, he never allows himself to become attached to any woman. No attachment means no weakness, no vulnerability, no pain. He doesn't realize that his whole world is about to be turned upside down when Kaiya enters his self-defense class. Determined to have her, at least for one night, Ryker sets a plan into motion that will change both of their lives forever.

Will love be able to heal their scars, or are they too deep to overcome?

This is a great read! This is a very damaged woman, but she's helped through her pain/damage with not only her brother, but the man that becomes her lover. I have nothing negative to say about this book. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

I enjoyed the storyline a lot. It deals with a very sensitive subject of incest and chronic abuse of a minor, so it may not be suitable for all readers. But it is written with extreme care and respect to victims of abuse and revolts about empowerment to overcome the physical and emotional scars. It would have been a 5 star book, if not for the disrepectful way in which all women other than the victim were portraited. It was a meat market where the guy and his friends hooked up with women for sex only and with disregard for the women. I don't have a problem with casual encounters, except when these womanizers treat and even refer to those women as whores. It disgusted me. There the 3 stars.

5 star I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, twists & turns, and heartbreak. This is Kaiya and Ryker’s story. Kaiya has a hard time trusting anyone. But when she meets Ryker she is drawn to him. These two are both a little broken in their own way. They each cope with the past in a different way. Kaiya wants self-defense lessons and Ryker is the teacher. Can these two work together to overcome the past hurts they have been dealt? Or will those past hurts come back to haunt them both? Is dealing with the past healing for soul destroying? Can these two really heal? Or is the past just too much to deal with? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book.

What do you do when someone just as scarred as you walks into your life? Do you hide behind your own problems or do you let someone who understands likely more than anyone else in? The Scars of Us follows two very deeply mistrusting and fearful characters. Their pasts in two very distinctive ways have shaped their lives forever. While Kaiya hides away from the world and only lets those in who play by her rules, Ryker doesn’t let anyone get close enough to hurt him. Both of these tragic characters broke me in ways that I don’t even think I could describe. I had trepidations about reading this book because Ky’s situation rang a little too close to home for a friend in my life. I struggled as I read her past and relieved the many nights that I comforted my friend who faced similar nightmares. Even has her demons plagued her life, Ky and my friend learned to trust again and let the right person into their life. Ryker, on the other hand, faced a completely different form of betrayal and mistrust. His story seems as if the headlines were ripped right out of a new article. His determination to protect his heart is somewhat of a modern marvel, but its when someone as vulnerable as him trips into this life that he knows it’s time to fix the past to live through for the future. Of course, his stubborn arrogance and alpha male tendencies put him into some tricky situations with Ky, but that only adds to the depth of this story. Sparxx hits all the right marks for me in this book. She tackled a very difficult subject and brought to light the horrors that some children face in this world. Abuse isn’t an easy thing to read about and Sparxx lays it all out for readers. The Scars of Us is heartbreaking yet daringly brave read that will leave readers hearts shattered and eyes completely cried out.

This story is overall sad. Kaiya has been abused all her life and lives with her older brother. She's living in fear still, not wanting to be touched at all. However, her brother insists on her taking a self defense class in case she needs to protect herself from the past. Enter, Ryker, sexy as sin instructor of said self defense class. One thing leads to another, but both resist the pull for quite a long time. This book is kind of predictable but I loved the ending scenes!
