Overview

The Devil's Dust MC has a list of new threats to the club's lifestyle. Dani, to prove her loyalty, is trying to embrace a part of herself that she never knew existed until now. A sinful beast lurking beneath her surface has been awakened and is ready to eliminate anyone that stands in its way. Looking at her stained hands, she rinses the blood from them. She resigns herself to innocence lost and welcomes her thirst for more blood.

After a breathtaking turn of events, Shadow is looking at life in a different perspective. Not knowing who he can trust or who he can forgive has left him feeling desolate and alone. As Shadow is laying behind his rifle, he wonders if he can pull the trigger to eliminate the threat. He takes a deep breath and squeezes the trigger, the rifle recoil ignites the fuel that drives him.

Retaliations will be required.

Boundaries will be shattered.

Redemption will be lost.

Betrayal so deep, yet they still yearn for one another. Can Shadow overlook Dani’s transgressions? Can Dani overlook the mistrust that Shadow has placed upon her?

I was not wrong! Dani did not disappoint me at all! As I mentioned in my review for book one Dani is one of the best female leads in an MC book I've ever read. She knows how to hold down her own without playing games. Her volatile relationship with Shadow and the club fueled that darkness that resided within her, all the BS that her mother put her through plus all of the other miscellaneous crap she was going through just amplified that darkness. It was beautiful in its gruesome glory, but scary at the same because obviously she didn't know how to deal with it. Shadow, I understand his loyalty to his club and his brothers but he can't have things both ways. He was torn between the club and his love for Dani and that made him act out make a lot of stupid, immature decisions. He kept regressing and getting angry at the wrong people. I'm just glad that he finally got his head out of his ass and decided to act like the adult he's supposed to be and the partner and man Dani has always seen in him. Its a hard road for the both of them, one they have to fight tooth and nail to fix and get back on track! There's a very sad loss in this book, one I didn't see coming. Made me tear up because it was a beloved character but scenes like those is what makes books like this real, juicy and emotional! Not everything is roses and rainbows in this world...unfortunately... I can't wait for book three! Fortunately this book completes Dani and Shadow's story, now we can move on to other characters! This author did a good job of telling their story in two books instead of stretching it out throughout four or five books, normally two books is ridiculous for me but book one was just that good, you have no choice but to pick up book two! Really liked this book. Wasnt as good as the first book but still good. Didnt really care for the rushed ending though. Thats why the 4 stars instead of 5. Would of loved shadow and dani's story to continue. Or maybe even bobby and doc's story. I see the next book is about Bull and Babs. Not interested in that story knowing how it ends already.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SERIES!!! This book blew me away. At times I cried the screamin ugly cry. And at times the suspense got so intense I almost peed my pants. Lol. I know that Dani and Shadow have a dark side but it's hard not to love them. Their chemistry is perfect and the sex is amazing. I can't wait to start the next book. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Another hot steamy read that is full of twists and turns that will hold your attention easily. This is the continuation of Shadow and Dani's story. The first book leaves us with what looks to the MC, her betrayal to the club so she has a lot to overcome in this book. She has to decide who she will side with, her mother or her father, Shadow and the MC but nothing about it will be a walk in the park. I made some comments in my review of the first book about the writing not being that great and there were gaps that made it hard to follow sometimes...this one didn't have any of that. I thought it read well and thoroughly enjoyed it.

4 Stars I was provided with an ARC/free copy for review. I read and enjoyed book #1 in The Devil's Dust series, What Doesn't Destroy Us. This 2nd book is the continuation of Dani & Shadow's story. It was interesting from front to back, but wasn't exactly what I expected.  I liked the character development where Dani is concerned and the twists with her mother. The relationship between her and Shadow just didn't really mesh for me. I love a good alpha bad boy all day and even one with some messed up issues, but Shadow was just in a league of his own. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the book. I'm super excited to read Bobby's story! I loved Bobby through both the current books in this series!

Alpha-Male with a Truly Dark Side Romantic alpha-male reveals his true dark side with the second book in THE DEVIL’S DUST series. When Dani’s mother set her up as a rat in WHAT DOESN’T DESTROY US, she shatters all the trust between Shadow and Dani. After Shadow’s rocky childhood, it’s hard for him to let Dani back in even after her dad decides the MC can trust her. While Shadow tries to work out his emotions, his best friend Bobby takes Dani in and helps her get back on her feet.  Before long Dani has a job, dating prospects, and the trust of the Devil’s Dust women, but what she really wants is to be back in Shadow’s arms. Unfortunately, Dani and Shadow’s troubled pasts bring a plethora of enemies just waiting to take them down. They may not be able to be together even if they are finally willing to let down their walls once and for all.  In WHAT DOESN’T DESTROY US, I complained that Shadow was overly sentimental when it came to Dani and I wanted to see a little more edge. I also said that some of the sex scenes were a bit flowery in their descriptions. I can honestly say there wasn’t even a hint of either of those issues in THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US. If anything, Shadow went a little far in the opposite direction. I wanted him to be the bad boy he was supposed to be, but I don’t think I was ready for just how easily he would take to killing when he thought the need was there. Dani doesn’t wear her patch anymore since she and Shadow aren’t together, but that doesn’t stop Shadow from killing anyone who tries to date her. Same with when Dani says if given the opportunity, she would have killed someone. Shadow takes her at her word when she most likely is just speaking out of anger. Yet when Dani realizes that Shadow must have gotten involved, she doesn’t even bat an eye.  Also, Shadow never seems to worry about normal concerns like gunshot residue or being at the scene of the crime. He will follow a body right into the hospital after being seen at the scene of the crime and never even mention the possibility of the police. It seemed unrealistic, even in the big bad world of motorcycle clubs (but maybe that’s just because I’m not an expert on MCs). The sex scenes were much more to my liking in THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US, though I thought they got a little excessive near the middle and end when what I really wanted was to get on with the story. Similar to the first, I just felt like parts of the book dragged, which is ironic considering how action-packed it was.  Once again, M.N. Forgy killed it with her teaser of the third book in the series and I went from counting my complaints to bouncing in my seat for Bobby and Doc’s story. I don’t know how she manages to weave the perfect amount of suspense and intrigue into her endings but she definitely knows how to hook a reader.  If you like motorcycle clubs and seriously dark alpha-males, THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US may be just what the doctor ordered. I gave THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US 3.5 stars. Just be sure to read the series in order as they are not stand-alone and you’ll want the background of how Dani and Shadow fell in love.  **Complimentary copy provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ Stars Life is not always an easy path for some.  It can be paved with good intentions, heartbreak, betrayal and lies.  For those that live their lives as if today is the last one they have, it can also lead to love and forever.  This is the second book in The Devil’s Dust series it tells Dani and Shadow’s story, a story that is often convoluted with all the twist that swirls around them. Dani loves Shadow! She is his old lady and he is supposed to protect her from danger, not threaten her. When her mother places her in custody of the FBI as a possible witness against the Devil’s Dust MC, Dani knows she will have to fight to get away.  Dani is finally released and returns to the club she finds that everyone views her as a rat, a snitch or someone in with the FBI.  It is hard to convince them that she did not betray them and it is put to a vote to either kill her or let her back in.  All Dani can think is where is Shadow, why is he not here standing up for her?  She is put into Bobby’s care and will be watched until she can be proven innocent.  Shadow just sits back and lets it all happen! Shadow is the club’s enforcer of justice.  He is torn between the need he has for Dani and the love he has for his club brothers. If Dani is proven guilty then he will be ordered to kill her, his old lady.  Shadow tries to keep a distance from her but the pull between them is too much for him to ignore. He finds himself outside their apartment, finding ways to help her get a job and at the same time hunting a way to prove that she is innocent.  Even doing all of this will she be able to forgive him for not standing at her side? This is not your normal romance or HEA kind of story.  It is a hard hitting; ugly at times kind of book about love that manages to survive even with all the betrayals.  You will find yourself asking why?  Can Dani and Shadow find their way back to each other? Will they be able to forgive each other?  Or will the past destroy them? Hero:  Shadow 4.5 stars Heroine: Dani 4.5 stars Plot:  4.5 stars Steam Level:  4.5 stars Cliffhanger: No Would I recommend this book:  Yes. If you are into the darker side of MC life and romance then this is the book for you.  It is a book that takes a look at the violence, horrors and anything goes attitude of life as member of a motorcycle club while also paying attention to the families of those club members.    Would I recommend this author:  Yes.  This is an amazing author that never fails to pull her reader into the heart of her book and refuses to let go until the last page.  Ms. Forgy is a remarkable writing with a sensitivity that will keep you wanting more, like when will the next book be released. ***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***

The Scars That Define Us is the continuation of Dani and Shadow’s story … the one that Ms. Forgy left us dangling off a cliff after the HUGE reveal at the end of What Doesn’t Destroy Us. I have to admit that it was definitely worth the wait. Neither Ms. Forgy nor the Devil’s Dust pull any punches with the opening of this book. Even knowing that the book was the rest of Dani’s story didn’t make me any less scared for her. Fortunately, clearer heads prevailed and she was given the time she needed for everyone to realize that she hadn’t betrayed the club … well, everyone but Shadow.  The first half of the book is largely Shadow and Dani torturing one another as Shadow tries to decide whether or not to trust Dani again and vice versa – he did turn his back on her after all. Oddly enough, I didn’t feel tortured myself by the back and forth between Dani and Shadow. Ms. Forgy kept life “moving forward” within the club, so it never felt like the story stalled. In fact, she had so much going on that I was half-way through the book before realizing it. I devoured this one. Unlike in book one, Dani knows herself better and has accepted that there is darkness within her – no more feeling bipolar (Thank Goodness!). Rather than being forced to deal with her internal drama, there was more than enough external drama going on this time around to keep me engaged. And let’s not forget the sex. Oh! My! God! I cannot believe that it was even hotter this time around. Granted, I questioned Dani’s sanity the first time she and Shadow hooked back up (condom anyone?), but the intensity between these two was off the charts.  As you would expect when dealing with an MC comprised of “one-percenters,” there is plenty of murder and mayhem to go around. While there were several people who died that definitely deserved it, there is a death that will likely leave you reeling and I suspect the ripple effect of it will continue to be felt in the next book. But don’t let me lead you to believe that the book is all dark and depressing scenes. It has its fair share of good events, happy news, and chuckle-inducing moments. I absolutely loved the Epilogue and the last five paragraphs of it had me laughing like a loon. Ms. Forgy has given readers of The Devil’s Dust series a great second installment with The Scars That Define Us and I’m looking forward to book three already.  I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.  Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!

Gifted Copy M.N. Forgy has managed to pull me in to the Devil’s Dust world and I don’t want to come back. I enjoy What Doesn’t Destroy Us now The Scars That Defined Us is just beyond belief. I think I just take up resident in Shadows’ Corner for a while! I haven't quite made it to the end of this book and do not want to see the end. This is one of those books you just don’t want to have end ever! Forgy pulls you in so much you feel like you’re sitting there watching the events unfold. This is a semi dark biker romance but it is delivered so well that you feel like you part of the club itself. The emotion this book pulled from me was amazing. M.N. Forgy has just made my list of favorite authors! I was pulling for Shadow and Dani to find their road to happiness. These two seem find every bump in the road. Just when you think they are going to find the happy for ever someone or thing comes along and pulls them a part. They are strong and fierce; both fight for what the love. I will update as soon as I finish the rest of this story but I can tell you know it not going to change much on the review other than me telling you that I’m biting my nails for that next book!
