Overview

When a career-ending injury left elite athlete and professional football player Lewis Howes out of work and living on his sister's couch, he decided he needed to make a change for the better. He started by reaching out to people he admired, searching for mentors, and applying his past coaches' advice from sports to life off the field. Lewis did more than bounce back: He built a multimillion-dollar online business and is now a sought-after business coach, speaker, and podcast host.

In The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing "the greats" on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented, but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives.

A framework for personal development, The School of Greatness gives you the tools, knowledge, and actionable resources you need to reach your potential. Howes anchors each chapter with a specific lesson he culled from his greatness "professors" and his own experiences to teach you how to create a vision, develop hustle, and use dedication, mindfulness, joy, and love to reach goals. His lessons and practical exercises prove that anyone is capable of achieving success and that we can all strive for greatness in our everyday lives.

This is...hands-down...the best personal development book I've come across in today's world. Yes, that's a huge statement...a massive statement considering the enormous amount of books are in the related genre. In today's world there's so much information, and yet we're starving for wisdom. The reason I feel this is the best book is because it gets raw with inspiring stories and CONSISTENTLY gives you practical strategies to implement RIGHT THEN AND THERE to improve the quality of your life immediately. This book is more than just a book. It's a master coach from all areas of life, inspiring you and encouraging you to expand the standards of your life for greatness...to be the best version of you, and to keep expanding beyond. If you're hungry for growth...hungry to be more and contribute more in life...hungry for more passion, excitement, wonder and joy in your life...then you need to get this book now.

This book is the distillation of the stories from Lewis's life and lessons from podcast guests, joined with action exercises (you may want to have a journal handy as you do the exercises) to help you design a great life. If you're a fan of personal development books, I recommend it. You will find value here. You'll find actionable content here. I'm rating 5 stars because, I do think the book is valuable and offers a lot. If I could, I'd give it 4.5 stars, taking 1/2 star for some minor style issues for me. For example, some of the exercises seemed to run on a bit for me. However, that said, do read the book and do the exercises. You don't become great by reading, you have to take action on what you learn. Then you will be on your own path to greatness. Personally, Since discovering Lewis and The School of Greatness (podcast) I'm realizing my dreams. In the last year, I've quit smoking, lost 40 pounds, started a podcast, just got a 15% raise from my employer by adding more value and some other really incredible things are now happening in my life. After reading the book, I love that I can revisit the various chapters & lessons when I need a boost. And that's often; to paraphrase Zig Ziglar; motivation is like a shower; it's best when you have it daily. I got to know Lewis's work from his podcast first. I'm always pleased with the guests he features, and it sounds like he has a lot of fun with his guests. One thing I appreciate about Lewis as he travels around having interesting conversations with interesting achievers, artists, athletes, creatives, business people; He always sounds grateful and humble. He has achieved great success, but he acknowledges it wasn't always so. Read the book & stories to learn how to overcome adversity, abuse, challenges, roadblocks to creating a great life and success. Note: I received an advanced review copy (galley) of The School of Greatness. But don't let that tell you my opinion is biased... I also have purchased the book to give to friends and podcast listeners.

This book was transformative in my mindset in the midst of pursuing personal and professional success. The book is a guide to how to live more intentionally and gives step by step actions to bring your ultimate dream in business or otherwise to fruition. Lewis Howes shares stories of triumph and challenges, which ignite the human soul. I wrote my personal daily principles on my bathroom mirror and read them every morning. Just one example of how your life and mindset can experience a powerful shift from reading this book. The greatest takeaway I've had from the book: Sometimes what's in the way, IS the way. Sometimes your greatest challenges bring about the greatest opportunities. Lewis fits his own story into this matrix as well as sharing other empowering insights. Grab this book if you want to take your life, relationships or business up to the next level! Highly recommend!

I've been following Lewis' School of Greatness podcast for almost a year now, and I saw him speak from the stage at a conference last weekend. Lewis' story of how he lifted himself off his sister's couch to become a world-renowned personal lifestyle coach, which he describes in the book, illustrates the power of connecting with people authentically. In addition to being inspirational, Lewis outlines a practical guide to achieving the greatness that is inside of you by identifying your passions and setting goals to help you achieve your dreams. While I've applied this guidance to my professional life, it can easily be transferred to other personal goals such as a relationship with a spouse or a desire to live a healthier lifestyle. After reading the book, I had so many people request to read it, I ended up purchasing two additional copies to lend to my friends and co-workers because I truly believe in the message Lewis spreads.

This is one of the best books I have read in a long, long time. The book is easy to read, which I like. It's truly one of those, "I just can't put it down," reads, because as you're reading it, you're feeling inspired, happy, hopeful and ready to make changes. I finished the book in one weekend and then dove back in to complete the action steps that solidify all the teachings in the book. So much of how we feel about life is due to our reactions. The littlest perspective changes (taught beautifully throughout the book), literally help change the way you handle adversity, difficulty and bad attitudes. Armed with the ability to focus on the beauty, vulnerability, grace, wonder, blessings and purpose in every situation, you become an invincible magnet for good things...because you create them. The book is one big pep talk for creating the life that's in your head or heart, but that you've been too afraid to speak into reality. But beyond just a pep talk and inspiring words, each chapter gives you action steps to take in order to make your thoughts and dreams a reality, starting with creating better habits in your everyday life. Much like a best friend would do, this book lifts you up without being corny, tells it to you straight, doesn't promise it'll be easy, but says all the right things to put you in the right frame of mine to RECEIVE the messages to move you closer to what you want.
