The Scobey Story, Vol. 2

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
The second of two LPs continued the documentation of trumpeter Bob Scobey's earliest performances as a bandleader. With trombonist Jack Buck, clarinetist George Probert, pianist Wally Rose, bassist Dick Lammi, and drummer Fred Higuera, Scobey had a hot and enjoyable band. In Clancy Hayes, the trumpeter was fortunate to have a major attraction who played banjo, set the standard for singing in this format, and contributed a minor hit in "Huggin' & A-Chalkin'," which is heard here in its original version. Other high points include "Big Butter and Egg Man," "Silver Dollar," "Ace in the Hole," and "Hindustan."
