Meet the Author

Maggie Stiefvater
Maggie Stiefvater

Maggie Stiefvater's life decisions have revolved around her inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical writer (all of which she's tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists and artists (she's made her living as one or the other since she was twenty-two). Maggie now lives a surprisingly eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with her charmingly straight-laced husband, two kids, and neurotic dog.

    I Also Recommend:

this book was awesome.  it was super creative and i appreciated

this book was awesome.  it was super creative and i appreciated the love that grew between Puck and Sean and how it wasn't just insta-love.  i do love instant love between characters, but this one was different and i liked it.  this book was beautifully written with clear and defined skill.  Stiefvater is an amazing writer and i secretly wish that this book had a sequel or something because i loved the characters!  i really liked how close-knit Puck was with her two brothers, Gabe and Finn.  i also really liked how it wasn't a simple little town, but it was a simple little island which really made it feel so much more secluded from the rest of the world.  i also love Puck's name!  Puck!  for a girl, fantastic!  i do admit, some parts were slow, but i got through them knowing that the book would pick up again.  i loved this book and really recommend it to anyone that's looking for something different.  it's truly original.  i give much applause to the author.

    About the whole book

I read the whole book and highly reccomend it. It is about
ancient sea creatures called kelpies (sea horses in the actual meaning of the word) amd how the main character, Maggie attempts to save the home she has had with her smaller brother her whole life.

This book is jam packed with action, adventure and a little bit of romance. It would be a shame for you not to read it

    !

Get rid of sneak peeks. Either put out the entire book or skip it but stop with the wasteful sneak peeks.

    Great book

I like horses so I really liked this book so if you like horses you might have a chance of liking it too. Its slow at some parts, but at the rest its at a fairly fast pace.

The Scorpio Races has two main characters Puck/Kate Connolly and Sean Kendrick which is told in first person hoping back from character to character. Throughout the novel the Island Skarmouth is described as a horse driven sacred island whose culture is partly revolved around a water horse known as the Capaill Uisce. The Capaill Uisce is an extremely large horse that not only craves the ocean’s water’s but also the blood of animals and other horses, it is known as a ruthless predator who can be tamed and rode only by the bravest. Sean’s dad was killed in the race nine years before the book begins, he is the four time champion that is popular on the islands and in the mainland. Puck’s parents were killed by the Capaill Uisce on a small boat and ever since then Puck and her brothers Gabe and Finn are cautious and terrified of the beast. The reason of her fear makes Kate debate the decision to either ride on her normal breed horse Dove or try to tame and ride the same creature that killed her parents. I have found that the book itself presents character structure and familiarity when explaining Puck or Sean going into precise detail of their personality. I could easily relate to some of Pucks comments about her siblings or her parents. The only main concern i have is the climax i felt as if i was just expecting a longer more intense moment. Overall the novel was good it had precise characterization and a very intriguing plot.

    THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME

I love the idea (though a bit gruesome) of this book and I love the characters. I loved the romance and I love the action. I basically loved everything about this book. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.
