    scropion clan follower

What can I say, I mean this was the first book and only book so far that I have read of this series. I am looking forward to the rest I mean if any of the others stacks half of much description of the battles that took place, the surroundings of the vast land and describing the way they lived 'the way of the samurai'. Also it shows that they where worship as heroes that even they can fail in their life just like ordinary men. Last it as well shows that some will risk and give everything that they have to protect what they believe in.

The Scorpion-Legend of the Five Rings

A captivating tale of how honor and responsibility can change our logical reasoning based on our duty. Bayushi Shoju and his wife, Bayushi Kachiko are leaders of the Scorpion clan, best known for their ability to keep secrets, and are faced with a duty to either serve the emperor which is their sworn duty, or to save all of the people of Rokugan from a prophecy that details the end of the world, even though it might mean bringing dishonor upon their entire clan. A riviting tale of sorcery, pride, deception and honor among samurai's. As an avid reader I would suggest everyone to take the time to read the entire series which consists of seven books all together. They will all be worth your time.

Enjoyable fantasy from a different angle

This book is the first in the Clan War series that is to detail the events from the Legend of the Five Rings collectible card game. There is also a role-playing game set in the same universe, but my understanding is that the games don't really cover the same time periods. Have I confused you? Good, let's move along, then. This is a fantasy world with an oriental (Japanese/Chinese/Korean/etc.) base to it. The main characters are mostly samurai of one kind or another, and the world feels heavily like medieval Japan, though with magic and other fantasy trappings. I thoroughly enjoy the setting, but your mileage may vary. The plot of this book revolves around one of the main clans in the Empire. Their leader discovers an ancient scroll that foretells a great calamity, and the entire nation mobilizes for war to stop it. That's really all that I can tell you without giving away too much, though if you are familiar with the card game you basically know everything that happened in a macro sense. I enjoyed the book. It suffered from some light editing errors, but not as much as some books I've read (i.e., some of the Games Workshop books). The pacing seemed about right to me, if maybe a touch too fast. There's more action than set-up, but that's fine by me. It is a good piece of gaming fiction, and I recommend it to anybody with an interest in the Legend of the Five Rings world, and people who want a different take on fantasy.

    Outstanding!

I dont read often, probably due to the fact that i can rarely get past the first few chapters of a book before getting bored. To make a long story short this book hooked me right away (I finished it within 2 days), and is excellent for anyone looking for a action filled fun read.

    Wonderful read.

A wonderful description of the Clan War Saga. What I especially liked is the desciption of the different fighting styles. The emphasis on the Scorpion technique of misdirection and unexpected manuevers was very well done. It was also interesting to place personalities to the characters in the card game.
