Meet the Author

J. J. Ulm lives in Columbus, OH with three ferrets, a dwarf hamster, an iguana, and a long-suffering roommate. Before deciding to take her writing seriously she spent a cumulative five and a half years working in bookstores and now knows far too much about books and authors she has never actually read. She currently works tech support, which is possibly even more soul-crushing than retail but at least pays the bills. When not at work she spends far too much time playing various MMOs when she really should be writing. Her unreasonable fascinations include office supplies, out-of-print sci fi/fantasy authors, and Transformers.

    Excellent Story! Dark Elves, woo!

I can honestly say that this is one tasty morsel of a story.

I tend to be a little apprehensive about these types of stories as some authors write their characters as bland nobodies who are just there for the reader's pleasure. No personality, no character, no nothing.

This story on the other hand...

Immediately you get pulled into a beautifully detailed fantasy setting that just feels...well, right. It was like a fresh of breath air after having read a currently popular book series that is all the rage with moms right now.

Right off the bat I knew this story was going to have character, and I was not wrong. The main character, Adin, is absolutely adorable and when it was all over I even shed an unexpected tear or two. That said, it's not sappy in the least.

And as for the passionate scenes? Well, let's just say I haven't read something that full of passion in a very long time. The imagery that J.J. Ulm conjures up is still with me well after the second and third reads and continued to be fresh even then.

I hope that the author releases a sequel or prequel to The Scout's, because he/she has done a wonderful job and I'd love to see Adin's or Sarien's story continue.

In conclusion, this story was well worth it and I highly recommend it!
