    Well-crafted story. Recommended!

"The Secret" is related to the author's webcomic, "Boston Metaphysical Society" but you really don't have to read or be a fan of the comic to enjoy this story.

Samuel Hunter is a former Pinkerton detective who now does freelance work. One of Boston's richest men has hired Samuel to be his daughter's bodyguard over her objections. She finds out, though, she really does need him as they are attacked while traveling about in the city. Being very observant, Samuel notices something about Elizabeth's actions before the attack that allows him to guess the secret she hides from everyone else -- especially her father.

Well crafted, imaginatively presented and both exciting as well as romantic, "The Secret" is well worth reading. My only complaint is that it ended far too soon! I want to learn more about these characters. Perhaps the author will offer additional stories that tell us more about these highly-interesting people. That would be something I would really look forward to.
