This is definitely a classic and for those of you who haven't read it, this is a great deal! I love this story and it's always fun to come back to. The imagery of the gardens are wonderful no matter the season, but I especially love reading it in the spring or summer while the birds outside my own window mirror the songs I am reading about. Great book! Recommended for all ages. :)

this is by far my favorite classic story that warms the heart. It's not just for children. I reread this story close to 6 times a year.

10-year-old Mary was being raised as an emotionally neglected, but very spoiled, brat in colonial India when she is suddenly orphaned by a cholera epidemic. She is sent to the house of a rich uncle in England, where she is ignored. Despite these tragic events, Mary somehow manages to make friends, and discover the magic of nature, for the first time in her life. This was an adorable book, though greatly contrasted from A Little Princess, in which the main character was sweet and lovable all the way through. I hadn’t thought I’d seen the movie when I read this book, but clearly I have since I knew the story too well. I will have to re-watch the movie now.

This book is very descriptive and exciting. I love how the author sets the mood from the begining. I also love how she describes the characters and gives a clear image of them.

This is, in my opinion, one of the best stories available for children to read. I have adored this author and her stories since I was a young girl.I would recommend this book to anyone who hasn't grown out of their imagination or sense of adventure. Also check out A Little Princess by the same author.

Garden is the story of Mary Lennox, who is sent to Misselwaithe Manor to live with her uncle after her parents die of cholera. A disagreeable child, Mary was always sickly, yellow, and skinny, but as she lives in the manor, she begins to grow up. Mary learns of a garden locked after a horrible accident and she is determined to find it. She becomes friends with Dicken, a Yorkshire lad, and together they bring life back to the garden. At night, Mary hears a a howling noise that is blamed upon the wind as it crosses the moors. The ever inquisitive Mary searches and discovers Colin, a boy with a secret, who very much resembles herself when she came to the manor. Togther, the three go on an adventure changing their lives for the better. I am a sixteen year old, who fell in love with this story at age eight. I am not paid to write this review. If you enjoy this story, read 'A little Princess.' After reading the story I recommend watching the 1975 Movie starring Sarah Hollis Andrews, Hope Johnston, and William Marsh. Additionally, look up the musical and listen, as the music conveys a beautiful, emotional journey.
