Overview

Kathy Colton cant stand her brother, Brett. Her family talks as if he were perfect! All Kathy knows for sure is that Brett is dead. He died of leukemia when he was sixteen and she was only two. But when Kathy turns sixteen, she discovers her brothers hidden journal - a journal written especially for her - and learns about the brother she never knew. At the same time, Kathy is mortified by an assignment to tutor the popular high school quarterback Jason West, a football jock who, even worse, is a Mormon. Author Kay Lynn Mangum brilliantly weaves the dual stories of a dying brother and a coming-of-age sister who learn the importance of loving our family and our friends and nurturing our faith.

This is a very very good book. It was also very touching. I cried so many times. I love the love Brett has for his sister. It was a very good story. I like Kathy but sometimes I got a little mad at her and I admire her. She's a lot braver than me. I could never yell at the football jock, act in front of the school among other things.

An awesome book. This is not only a book about a brother and a sister, but about two friends and a girl finding the true gospel. As Kathy finds out more about her brother that she feels stole her childhood, she learns a lot about herself in the process. Anyone who is dying for a good read needs to get this book.

This book was the ideal definition of a 'can't put it down for a second' book. I am not a cryer in the least, let alone a reader for any sort of romance, yet this book had tears streaming down my face the entire time I was reading it. I only put it down to blow my nose and wipe my eyes because I couldn't read the font through the tears. It is indeed a touching novel, and makes you look back and be grateful for the gospel (if you're mormon). My mom was the one who recommended the book to me, and it wasn't until she sat me down and thrust the book in my face that I read it, and I do not regret it in the least. I am not an emotional person, or at least I wasn't, until I finished reading this book. I loved this book and would recommend it to all who enjoy a good and wholesome reading- and even those who don't because by the end, they will!

This book was great! Original story with lots of surprises. I was inspired and touched, I laughed a lot, and yes I cried too. As I read Kathy's story, I related to her character, it brought back so many memories from high school and I found myself laughing out loud, because I realized I had had similar experiences in high school and just forgotten about them. The story has a lot of good moral lessons. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what to think of the main characters. But as the events unfolded in the story, the author did a great job developing the characters and showing the contrast in the growth and maturity of their personalities as they came to realize what was most important in life. This is a great, wholesome, uplifting story. I couldn't put it down and read it within just a few days - I didn't want it to end. A great gift idea for any young adult, parent or friend, and my husband enjoyed it just as much as I did. It was strongly recommended to me and I would and have recommended it in a heartbeat.

This is a book for anyone who's every been a teenager, a parent, a sibling, or a friend. Be prepared to have your emotions put on edge, and don't pick up this book unless you have enough time to finish it. You won't want to put it down. Unbelievable that this book is the author's first effort.
