Great Read

I have read this book twice and find the characters well defined and strong. Kate is definitely a strong personality and one I find I can relate too. The plot was very intriguing and romantic. I highly recommend this book!!!

Loved It!

A friend recommended this book to me. It is the first book that I read from Kat Martin. I loved it and can't wait to read more of her books. I didn't want it end. She picked a great leading man in Chance McLain.

A Winner.

Kat Martin delivers another great suspenseful story. The characters are wonderful and with a great plot it keeps the reader from putting it down. Highly recommended.

exciting romantic suspense

Unhappy with her fast-paced Southern California lifestyle, Kate Rollins nervously walks to the garage where her car is parked late at night. She knows she already disappointed her pre-teen son David by working late on the advertising campaign rather than coming home to take him to the movies as she promised. Kate never reaches her car as a drive-by shooting leaves her in the hospital with a near death experience and just fortunate to be alive.
Kate recognizes that one of the people she seen in her near death experience is her recently deceased grandmother Nell Hart, who she never met when the woman was alive due to a family squabble. Nell left Kate some property in Lost Peak, Montana. Still frightened from her trauma and worried about David¿s recent behavior and whom he hangs with, Kate takes her son and relocates to Montana. Kate becomes involved with the local environmental movement and to her chagrin is attracted to Chance McLain. There is also the mystery of her grandma¿s death to solve.
To romance readers it is not a SECRET that Kat Martin consistently writes some of the best novels in the genre. Her latest tale is an exciting romantic suspense novel that works because of Kate, who already has a full plate, but more emotionally wrenching items pile onto her angst-laden soul. By limiting the paranormal elements, Ms. Martin capably enhances her story line while staying true to the theme. Sub-genre fans will take pleasure from this convincing story.
Harriet Klausner

Highly recommend

I thought this story was very good. Drama, romance (lots) Kate and her son leave LA and go to Montana to a home that belonged to her grandmother. Kate had a near death experience when she was shot one night leaving work. Her grandmother tried to tell her something about how she died. Kate goes and reopens a cafe that her grandmother and friend once ran. She meets Chance McLain and he goes after her but is engaged to another woman that Kate knows nothing about. She falls in love with him, he with her, but then she finds out he is going to marry a child hood friend to please the friends father. Chance takes her son David and teaches him how to fish and ride a horse because he has never done these things. David's father was always going around the country with a band and never really there for David. After realizing the marriage is bad, that is when Kate decides to get a divorce and move into her Grandmother's home and find out if her grandmother died accidently or murdered. It has a happy ending but you almost want to kick Chance for how he treats Kate. He used her knowing he is engaged to be married. The lady he is engaged to is a model and is out of state working. They have open deal at the time where each can still date others.

Outstanding!!!

I bought this book in Dec. 2012 and it has been on my Nook since then. I wasn't crazy to read it because it was a "paranormal" book and as much as I like Kat Martin I just kept putting this book off... But when I finally started it I could not put it down... It is a "home run", a "hat trick" and I absolutely loved it... Kate and Chance are wonderful characters and the supporting cast was also great... The story line was original and had a perfect balance of components... A little mystery, some suspense, wonderful love scenes and just a story that kept you hanging on till the very end... Loved it!!!!

The Secret by Kat Martin Love this book for not only it taking m

The Secret by Kat Martin
Love this book for not only it taking me to Montana, very detail descriptions of the land, animals and nature but a good story about fighting for what you believe in.
Kate Rollins, recently divorced had been shot. With her near death experience she moved her son and herself to a ranch in Montana, from the streets of LA where she was in charge of ads.
She now runs the cafe and has a house behind it on 80 acres of land. She never knew her real mother...
Chance McLain is a local rancher and half Indian and soon should be married to the neighbor's daughter, Rachel but he's seen Kate and likes what he sees.
A mystery surrounds her grandmothers death and by talking to other locals she finds some clues....
Mining company also wants to set up another mine where it would pollute more of the waterways and kill animals and ruin vegetation. The townsfolk meet to take action against it..
Things escalate slowly but you gain more facts and clues as time goes on.. Somebody doesn't want her there in Montana and she's been scurrying through the attic-all the old papers, deeds, etc...
Hot steamy sex scenes add to this story.
I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest opinion.

Full of Suspense and Romance.

This book is Kat Martins best yet.It put in great suspense to the mystery as to who killed Kates grandmother and all the while gave you the perspective of a budding romance which finally comes to a head, and then she hits you with the untimly betrayal, which has you kind of experience the pain too,as though you are the character. I recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense with romance that goes along with it.

Loved this Book!

This was the first Kat Martin book that I have read! I LOVED it!! Didn't want it to end. It is a definate 'keeper' on my romance book shelf! I see where most of Ms. Martin's books are historical romances, wish she wrote more of the contemporaries!

Excellent contemporary romance

I've read every book Kat Martin has written and as usual I bought this one as soon as it came out and didn't regret it. She is an excellent storyteller and I loved the characters in this book. I'd love to meet a handsome cowboy like Chance, just as city girl Kate did. I felt like I got to know Montana and the environmental issues that concern people there. The romance between the two characters was great and the love scenes were sizzling. Don't forget to read her other books!!

A Wonderful Surprise

My first book by Kat Martin and I have to say I hope she has written many more as I would love to read more from her. She incorporates true life events and people; Brooks & Dunn (my personal favorite)and Yahoo! for example, into a wonderful mix of fantasy and reality to bring us a totally believable magic tale. It left me wishing I was Kate.
