A younger man bent on seduction, an older woman determined to resist, and a love that could not be denied.

Jameson McEwan, known to almost everyone as Jamie, is happy with her lot in life. Married young to a powerful older man, she has had little romance and very little experience with men--other than ordering them around on her ranch. She'd actually been in love with her first husband not knowing he had seen it as an arranged marriage. After that heartbreak she is reluctant to even think about a marriage based on love again.

Seth Conner has always wanted Jamie. From the moment he met her, his best friend's older sister has been a bit of an obsession for him. Even at the age of sixteen he knew he wanted her, but she was married to another man. And, sensing her reluctance, he never acted on his desires even after she became a widow. That is, until she says she's marrying another man. He decides he has waited long enough.

Jamie never expected to find herself in bed, tied up and shivering with desire, especially not with Seth. But through one night and day filled with passion, she finds him as addictive as liquor. She knows it will never last. She is older and has too much responsibility. But, when he refuses to take no for an answer, she begins to think that maybe things could be different.

But someone is hell bent on making sure the two of them never find happiness and will do anything--including murder--to keep them from succeeding.

» Warning: Explicit sex, spanking, seduction by a younger man, a little bit of bondage for fun, and a whole lot of teasing guaranteed to make ya hot under the collar and enough passion to give your spurs a twirl.

Meet the Author

Born to an Air Force family at an Army hospital, USA TODAY Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder has always been a little bit screwy. She was further warped by her years of watching Monty Python and her strange family. Her love of romance novels developed after accidentally picking up a Linda Howard book. From then on, she was hooked. She read close to 300 novels in one year and decided romance was her true calling instead of the literary short stories and suspense stories she had been writing. After many attempts, she realized that romantic comedy, or at least romance with a comedic edge, was where she was destined to be.

Influences in her writing come from Nora Roberts, Jenny Crusie, Susan Andersen, Amanda Quick, Jayne Anne Krentz, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, and Lori Foster. Since her first release in 2004, Melissa has written close to thirty short stories, novellas and novels released with seven different publishers in a variety of genres and time periods. Those releases included a 2005 Eppie Finalist, Two Capa finalists, and an International ebook best seller in June of 2005. Surrender was named top Category Romance by Authors After Dark, and she was named Author of the Year and Most Accessible Author.

Since she was a military brat, she vowed never to marry military. Alas, fate always has her way with mortals. Her husband is a retired AF Major and she happy she gets to pick where they live. When she isn't writing, she reads, drinks some wine, reads some more, cooks, spends all her free time on facebook, and watches too much Investigation Discovery. Oh, and she reads some more.

She has always believed that romance and humor go hand in hand. Love can conquer all and as Mark Twain said, "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." Combining the two, she hopes she gives her readers a thrilling love story, filled with chuckles along the way, and a happily ever after.

The Seduction of Widow McEwan is Melissa Schroeder’s one foray into historical western romance and after reading this romp through the old west, I say it’s high time she went back to the Old West and wrote some more. As I’ve come to expect from Schroeder, there’s a fair amount of story packed into the 99 pages of this novella - a complete story with well developed characters, dramatic plot and a lot of sexual tension. Jamie McEwan has survived a dismal marriage and is running a large and very successful ranch in Texas but her younger brother’s best friend has waited as long as he’s going to  - it’s time to go after the woman he loves, the woman he’s loved since he was 16.  I enjoyed the twist of the age difference between them and the long standing friendship that’s both a bridge between then and a barrier to a future.  I enjoyed this story tremendously, I recommend that you sit back and enjoy your visit to Schroeder’s Texas ranches and when you get back, help talk her into a return visit or two.  I received an ARC of this novella and here offer my honest and unbiased review of the same.

This book is a well written, fast paced can’t put it down kind of read a wonderful story of romance in the old west. This has it all; the young widow, the bad man who wants to marry her because her ranch is doing better than his (but not because of anything she has done in his opinion), and her younger brothers sexy best friend and partner who has had a crush on her forever. It is tough in the old west. Tougher if you are a single woman but Jameson McEwan has been thriving since her husband died but some folks can’t stand the thought of a woman succeeding.  I loved everything about this book from the cover to the end.
