Toren is in constant rebellion to his grandfather, King Kortan's plans for his future. After studying under Priest Augur for more than two harvests, the prince returns to Harkan ready to begin his service in the King's army. The unexpected capture of a group of Seerling soldiers brings back the memory of a kindness shown him as a child. Staring into the large, gray eyes of the Seerling girl, Toren is overwhelmed with a desire to protect her. His desire to protect his new slave leads him on a journey of self-discovery and true love. Toren faces the hardest decision of his life when he finds that her past will conflict with the future he has planned.

This book is a love story which will appeal especially to girls.
As I started reading this book, Astril was just born and her mother "The Quees" dies. Isilian lives in the house but wants to go back home to her own mother and father. Her mother though that Isilian would be chosen as the High Priestess but that was not to be.
The protagonist is Astril, a daughter of the High Priestess in a matriarchal society that is slave to a religion of human sacrifice. They are called the Seerlings. The neighboring enemy kingdom is a patriarchal society, some members of which follow the One True God. They are called the Harkonians.
I am sorry to say but I did not get far into this book, I just could not grasp what they were doing. I think that a younger person may enjoy it better. It is well written the best I could tell and I tried my best to read it
This book was sent to me by Bring It On Communications free for my honest review.
