Overview

Delve into the details of all things Shadowhunter with this special collectors edition of the illustrated guide to the knowledge and lore of the Shadowhunter world.

Since the thirteenth century, the Shadowhunter’s Codex has been the one and only manual for Shadowhunters looking to brush up on their demon languages, learn proper stele use, and discover just what exactly a pyxis is. Featured in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this guide is a necessity for any young Nephilim on their journey to becoming a Shadowhunter. Beautifully illustrated, the Codex contains images of the famous Shadowhunter homeland of Idris, as well as depictions of demons and other Downworlders.

But this isn’t just any copy of The Shadowhunter’s Codex. It’s Clary’s copy, and as an artist herself, she’s sketched pictures of her friends and family in the book, and scrawled helpful advice in the margins. Of course, she couldn’t exactly stop Jace or Simon from adding their thoughts either. Part encyclopedia, part history, part training manual—complete with commentary from Shadowhunters who have seen it all—this beautiful guide is a perfect supplement to the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

This special edition of The Shadowhunter’s Codex is complete with lush and luxurious detailing that highlights its historic importance. The book is nestled in a gorgeous soft-touch slipcase with foil and embossing on the case. Inside is the book itself, also soft-touch and foiled, with gilt edges, a golden headband, and a golden ribbon—perfect for a studying Shadowhunter to mark their place. It’s as much a work of art as a training manual.

This book is amazing! It blends seamlessly with the Shadowhunter world that Cassandra Clare has created for us and is of the highest caliber! I was worried at first that I would be let down like I was when JK Rowling released her "textbooks", but that was definitely NOT the case! I couldn't have hoped for anything more! The artwork is beautiful, and the notations by our beloved characters are amusing. My favorite part was reading about Henry Branwell's contributions during and post-TID. I highly recommend purchasing the special edition to add to your Cassie Clare collection! (And sorry for all of the exclamation points... that's just how excited this book has made me!)

I sampled this before buying it and to be honest this is best purchased in hardback if you have a true mortal instruments lover. The book as a whole is interesting loved seeimg the runes, loved being able to read cassandra clares history for her world that I fell so madly in love with, but most of all loved that it is narrated in spots by Clary, Jace, & Simon. The ebook takes the fun out of that and sort of throws you off to who is talking in which spots; where as the hardback book actually uses different writing fonts for each character like they actually wrote in the codex. It was fun to read, & throughout the book are Clary's anime drawings of favorite characters (i.e. Izzy, Alec, Magnus...Chairman Meow lol even a cute onenof Max :/) anyways its def worth the read I absolutely loved it and I hope you enjoy it too!

I got the special edition, that came in a Case and let me tell you it is worth the extra money... Its wonderful and soft to hold, and the gold paper edges look fantastic. The artwork is simply phenomenal, and the comments are hilarious, especially Simons. You get to learn a bit more about Clary while she trained under Jace, things we dont get a whole lot of in the novels. Its a wonderful reference tool for people aiming to draw fanart as well.  A fantastic buy.

I seriously LOVE this book! I think it is better than JK Rowling's books that she released. I love Clary, Jace, and Simon's commentary in the books. They crack me up and you can still see their attitudes in the book. I love that this book has drawings and it is more descriptive than I thought it would be. Definitely worth buying!!

Although much of this book read like a textbook, I still enjoyed it. I liked learning more about the history of the world that I've come to love. I also really enjoyed the illustrations and the commentary from Jace, Clary, and Simon. There is information that we already know if we've read the series, but there is more that we've never learned. I think this book is a great addition to Clare's other books for true fans of the series.

After reading the first five books in The Mortal Instruments series and knowing that I was going to buy The Infernal Devices at some point I really wanted to get my hands onto the Shadownhunter’s Codex once it was published. I am a naturally nosey person when it comes to books and learning more about the book world so I was glad when I got it as a Christmas present.  This book did not disappoint me at all. Throughout the pages you feel as though this is something the Clave has actually wrote down from the way the language comes across. Instead of the usual story writing style that Cassandra Clare usually uses throughout her books, she and Joshua Lewis slip more into an instructional guide which makes you feel as though the Codex is a real thing.  There was an immense amount of information in the Codex but not enough to make you want to fall asleep.. There was a lot of new information though that gave you a real insight into how much effort was actually put into creating this whole world of Nephilim and Downworlders and the amount of research that was put into it.  The notes that were scattered on the pages from Clary Jace and Simon were really amusing to read and you could see that in the process of putting together this Codex, Cassie Clare definitely did not forget the true personality of her characters. Even in these short notes you were able to put together the type of person each one of them was. The only gripe I do have with the notes were that a lot of the time it was hardtop know where she wanted you to read them.  One of my favourite aspects of this Codex is the fact that towards the beginning of this book Magnus Bane has his own section of writing. Throughout this small section his sarcasm was seeping through while still being quite informative.  The only problems that I really had with the book is that there were some sections, like Magnus’, where it cut through a sentence and the sentence wouldn’t carry on for quite a few pages then which made you lose the flow of reading. The notes were also a little hard to read sometimes since you couldn’t really tell where she wanted you to read them.  Overall though, I am still extremely glad that I had this as a Christmas present and it’s made me understand the Shadowhunting world a lot better. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan of Cassie Clare’s series’.

I loved this book though a tad dull it gives more depth to the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices. This is a mixture of facts that most shadowhunters should know with little scribbles from Jace, Clary , and Simon.
