This story combines elements of Fantasy, Paranormal, and Romance to create a contemporary Native American themed romance with mystical and spiritual overtones. My family is part Cherokee and that deeply rooted, rarely spoken of in my home culture came to my spiritual rescue during one of the darkest hours of my life. This book is both a romance and an exploration of life after death, but in a wondrous way.

The Shaman's Mate ensnared my attention from the start. It was a wonderfully told story of loss and the strength that comes with moving forward. It is set in a paranormal world with the ascend Chileaan culture, but is also peopled with other tribes ascended from beings not of human nature. McDonald does a wonderful job writing the growth of Jason and Aiyanna's relationship. The Shaman's Mate was a true pleasure to read and it would make a great addition to your to be read list!
