Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Enid Portnoy
Princess Amina is going to be a bridesmaid for her cousin's wedding but first she wants to investigate the large tiger she sees roaming along the riverbank beneath the palace. She has tasks to complete for the wedding celebration but wants to find a way to search for the tiger. Soon her friends, the rescue princesses will be arriving. They love animals and try to protect them from any danger. Amina, though, is not allowed to leave the palace. What can she do to get down to the river? Part of the series, "The Rescue Princesses," all the drawings in the book are black and white and show four friends in their lovely wedding dresses trying to decide how to escape watchful eyes of the palace guards. Each chapter has plenty of action and surprises to keep a young reader's attention. It can be dangerous to go down where tall grass grows near the river, and where large wild animals make their home. The girls can be punished for sneaking away if they are discovered. Should they try to escape? The chapters of the book are short but well written. Readers will feel the suspense growing. This adventure ends happily but not before the girls come close to being discovered. They realize they have to take someone into their confidence so they can find the tiger carefully, ending the story on a nice note of being able to count on friends. Young girls especially will delight in the comfortable relationships the girls have, and their dedication to help animals and friends who get into trouble. Book eight in the "Rescue Princesses" series. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy
