All Music Guide - Steve Huey
Alternative metal exploded during the late '90s thanks to groundwork laid by groups like Nine Inch Nails, White Zombie, and Rage Against the Machine, and as record companies scrambled to find the next Korn or Limp Bizkit, the genre became clogged with legions of similar-sounding bands, all trying to find just the right blend of low, heavy guitar riffs, rap-metal, industrial, and intense aggression. Often, those attempts could result in sounds that seemed too calculated and self-consciously cobbled together to feel natural; plus, inventive production was frequently employed to disguise many songs' lack of memorable hooks. The Sickness, the first entry by Chicago's Disturbed in the alt-metal sweepstakes, thankfully avoids those common pitfalls, turning in a mixture of raw, gut-level metal and industrial/electronic backing that feels logical and integrated. Although the music has its fair share of pummeling aggression and accompanying shouted vocals, Disturbed also isn't afraid to employ melody, and they're actually quite good at it when they choose that direction. Occasional forays into rap-metal aren't really the group's strong suit and can feel a bit awkward, although they do have a certain rhythmic acuity missing from some similar bands' attempts. But even if it has a few less-than-compelling moments, The Sickness overall comes off as the work of a band who really doesn't have far to go to achieve total control of its sound and compositional skills, and that makes it a terrific debut album.

    Perfect

I love Disturbed. Out of their four albums, this was the best. Stupify and DWTS were both the best for me.

    Hmmmmmm.......Decent.

This is an okay CD. I loved all of the singing parts (both when David uses his smooth, sultry voice, and the rough voice parts) in songs like DWTS. But whatever he did in songs like Droppin' Plates i disliked very much. Good guitar, but I really don't care for electronic sound in any kind of song, but I did enjoy most of the songs.

Some Good, Some Not So good

Some of the songs on the first Disturbed album (such as Droppin' Plates, Down With The Sickness, and Voices) are good, but others aren't that good. They seem like fillers.

stupify is the song on Swimfan FILM Trailer

12-13-2003 Anno Domini "Stupify" is the song on the swimfan movie trailer. so if you like this song, get it. song is good. swimfan starres actors mr. bradford, ms. appleby, and ms. christesen. swimfan did ok @ the box office: 28 million at the box office. the plot is about a young woman from the elite class who falls for this swimmer, but becomes obsessed with him that in the end she is driven to madness, in where it results in a tragic pool death. But this band Rocks, and Swimfan, THE MOVIE, is good too.

    DISTURBED IS...

A cd confined deep within the hidden iniquities of pleasure and disquieting. the songs are good, although the singer is screaming like someone just grabbed his balzac, and the songs are bumpin' IMHO

    Breath of Fresh Air

I've had this CD pretty much since it came out. Let me just say that it ROCKS! They combine a touch of rap with slamming backup rhythm and memorable riffs..it's very in-your-face and each track is a pleasure and different in it's own way.

    An Excellent CD

I had heard ''Down with the Sickness'' on the radio and loved it. Then I downloaded their song ''Stupify''. After hearing it, I bought the CD and so far it hasn't left my stereo. It's a truly awesome CD. All the songs are really good, rather than finding out that the only worthwhile songs are those on the radio. It's intense, and I'm eagerly anticipating a follow-up!

You got to get this one before you get the next!!!!!!!!!

Every song on this track leaves you wanting more and more. People interpret Disturbeds lyrics in many different ways! That's what makes a band the best band, for their music and especially for their lyrics. For being a 1st CD, it is amazing and creats a highly anticipated situation on what is left for their 2nd CD. I can't wait! Can you? A must get!

    Sickness

Disturbed, The name fits their style of demonic sounding rock. Not only has the lead singer, David Draiman, come out of backstage in a black straight jacket with padlocks all down the front, but in his music, if you pay attention, he puts hidden everyday occurrences for some people into his songs. In the song ¿Down With The Sickness¿ the screaming speaking part in the middle of the track there is a one sided conversation between a kid and his substance abusive mother whom beats him repeatedly. Now a lot of parents wouldn¿t enjoy the occasional swearing in the music but that¿s their problem. A lot of kids, especially teen just want a way to drown out the parents that continually abuse their life. The Sickness is an awesome CD for just that.
