Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Haley Perez
Upon returning from his risky excursion through the Golden Door, Rye returns to the exciting City of Weld for more adventures. In this second title in the “Golden Door” series, Rye, the main character, has only left the city once in his life. That first expedition, made this journey with his friend, Sonia, was perilous and almost ended his life. Their goal was to find the monsters that were attempting to attack the city. They failed and must travel outside of the city once again. Three magic doors offer the only ways in and out of Weld. On their first trip, they left through the golden door. For their second trip, they choose to leave out of the silver door. The story describes the dangers they face and how they overcome them. The story has a slightly dark tone because the realm the characters are exploring is reckless and frightening, but both male and female readers will find this a riveting read. Middle grade readers will identify with Rye’s character development as he gains self-confidence and learns to utilize his strengths to reach his full potential. The mystery and suspense of this book will definitely draw young readers in and catch their attention. Reviewer: Haley Perez; Ages 8 to 12.
