The Book Pushers
"The way that Huff tied all of the strings together from this epic journey was masterful. She paid equal attention to her characters as she did her world-building, resulting in a seamless whole. The melding of science, magic, era-specific technology, superstition, war and how ordinary people can do extraordinary things was captivating."
The Ranting Dragon
"[Huff] knows not only how to world build, but how to build magic systems and do phenomenal characterizations. Her experience shows on every page of The Silvered.... Books this good don’t come along that often. The Silvered is a well-planned, well executed adventure tale. I loved it. Completely."
San Francisco Book Review
"The Silvered paints a fascinating society based on the symbiosis of mage and wolf-pack, each group partnering and tempering the other. "
Locus
"It all adds up to a fun, old-fashioned adventure made new with an interesting magic system.”
Publishers Weekly
Best known for her books-to-TV series Blood Ties, Huff delves into an overwhelming yet improbably seamless mix of steampunk, epic fantasy, and paranormal romance to launch a new series. The kingdom of Aydori, long ruled by werewolf packs, has merged forces with neighboring duchies against the power-hungry, were-hating Kresentian Empire. Sure of their were-blood strengths and their mage inheritances, the Aydori are shocked when the Imperials discover and exploit the weres’ secret vulnerability to silver. As warriors fall in battle, five high-ranking Aydori women are captured as a prophecy warns the Empire may be brought down by an unborn child. The fate of everyone rests on the uncertain shoulders of Tomas Hagen, younger brother to the pack leader, and Mirian Maylin, a mage who never reached her potential, as they begin a classic hero’s journey to save their kingdom. Huff fans who prefer her second-world fantasy tales (e.g., the Quarters series) will be pleased by this return to the form. Agent: Joshua A. Bilmes, JABberwocky Literary Agency. (Nov.)

VOYA - Lauri J.Vaughan
Young and untested mage Mirian Maylin and Tomas Hagen, a wolf-shifter of the Aydori kingdom, find themselves unlikely partners on a quest to rescue five pregnant mages kidnapped by the evil emperor. The story is basic and not especially original, but the execution is expert. The simple good versus evil plot line takes its time, and Huff spares little opportunity to embroider fine description into the parallel coming-of-age tales of Mirian and Tomas. Nearly equivalent in importance and description are two additional tales—one of the morally torn Captain Reiter, who questions his loyalty to the brutal emperor while still performing his duty. The plight of the captured Danika, a mage with her fellow victims rendered powerless by predicament, creates the third strand in Huff's sweeping story. The braid is further embellished with familiar themes—will the magic of Aydorians be able to match the emperor's burgeoning technology? When does individual morality outstrip patriotic loyalty? How fine is the line of submission and courageous perseverance? Strong male and female characters make this an excellent choice for mixed gender fantasy book clubs. Content will favor mature readers, as unhurried plotting will favor the patient and hard-core fantasy reader. Huff's world and characters will easily withstand continued creation, and while this wraps up neatly, readers will be hoping for more. Put this in the hands of fans of Rothfuss's The Name Of The Wind (DAW, 2007). Reviewer: Lauri J.Vaughan
