Overview

Much is made of the importance of giving kids the right start in everything from playtime options to education. In that regard, parents looking to put their tiny ones on the proper path, music-wise, should invest in this two-album box set without delay. It consists of the first pair of releases by Raffi, still the premier children's performing artist after more than two decades in the business. Those inaugural records are Singable Songs for the Very Young and More Singable Songs, both brimming with kids' classics and Raffi originals; The Singable Songs Collection features all 35 of these essential tunes, in order of appearance on their respective albums. Raffi's own tunes include "Shake My Sillies Out," which provides tykes with an effective (and furniture-safe) method for letting loose excess energy; "Willoughby Wallaby Woo," an irresistible name game easy enough for toddlers to play; and "I Wonder If I'm Growing," another charmer for the sandbox set. Raffi covers plenty of children's favorites in his own good-time way, in such songs as "Six Little Ducks," "Down by the Bay," and "Aikendrum." There are several multicultural offerings as well, such as the island-flavored "Sambalele" and "Petites Marionettes," sung in French. Throughout, Raffi's special bond with young children is emphatically evident.

All Music Guide - Marisa Brown
This three-disc set reissued by Rounder Records in 1997 takes children's singer Raffi's first three (and arguably best) albums, Singable Songs for the Very Young, More Singable Songs, and The Corner Grocery Store and More Singable Songs, and packages them all together. The Singable Songs Collections goes through all types of songs -- from traditional to country-inspired, to calypso, to folk, to just silly -- and includes tracks like "I've Been Working on the Railroad," "Down by the Bay," "Goodnight Irene," "You Gotta Sing," "Who Built the Ark?," and "Baa Baa Black Sheep," making for a very appealing collection, music that's fun for kids and their parents alike.

Raffi is and has been just a wonderful entertainer/teacher for all the young ones in and out of my family for years. Thank YOU !!!!

My siblings and I grew up singing along to Raffi, now I'm able to share his music with my child, and its just as good. My husband dislikes children's music, but absolutely loves Raffi. Our son has picked up multiple lines in his songs and we've only owned the CD for a couple weeks. He now walks over to the stereo and points saying, "Ooh Aaah!" His CD's have help us through bad moods, play dates and long car trips.

I have raised four children on Raffi's music and have never tired of these songs over the course of fifteen years. My children and I have listened to a lot of children's music artists and have a short list of favorites which Raffi tops. The songs are timeless classics and singable for all ages. I'm glad that they finally have a set of all the Singable Songs. My 12 and 15 year old were raised on "The Corner Grocery Store", "Singable Songs for the Very Young", "Baby Beluga" and "Raffi in Concert" and still remember these songs that we sang and danced to practically every day in their toddler and preschool years. And I am still singing and dancing to these songs with my four year old son.

This wonderful (!) music has been more than we ever expected. It's simply the silliest, brightest, most fun, and most singable children's music of all time. It's especially good for very young children (1-5). It's been a very important part of our children's childhoods. This music is so much better than most commercial children's music that there really is no comparison. Get this and listen to it. It will pay you dividends many times over.

As a first time mom, finding music that was beyond mickey mouse or similar was difficult. I stumbled onto Raffi while browsing in the music section of B&B. My sons just loves the music. Its fun and educational at the same time. It is hard to pick a favorite song but Joshua Giraffe is hard to beat for my 3.5 year old.

Raffi is the greatest children's musician of all time. Every parent should own this three-disc collection. Raffi's music is fun and ''just right'' for the very young. Kids love Raffi. Adults will find themselves singing too! It's music that everyone enjoys. You get three of Raffi's five ''must own'' CD's with this collection: Singable Songs for the Very Young - Great with a Peanut Butter Sandwich; More Singable Songs for the Very Young; and Corner Grocery Store. This music is the finest children's music ever recorded. I can't recommend this collection strongly enough. Singable Songs for the Very Young, the first disc, revolutionized children's music. It stands as a landmark to compare children's music with. Raffi understands children and children's music. He's the Mr. Rogers of children's music, but silly. You'll love classics like, The More We Get Together, Robin In the Rain, Down By the Bay, Peanur Butter Sandwich, Mr. Sun, Six Little Ducks, Shake My Sillies Out, Y a un Rat/Sur le Pont d'Avignon, Goin on a Picnic, and more. Raffi is so much better than almost anything else out there for children! Also get his concert video, A Young Children's Concert, and his concert CD, In Concert with the Rise and Shine Band, which older kids love too. Our family loves Raffi, and so will you!

I raised two kids on Raffi. They still remember all of his songs and both grew up to participate in choral programs through childhood, despite being born to a non-musical mama! We sang Raffi together every day. You will find nothing better or more enjoyable for your kids.

Raffi is not pleasant for adults to listen to. I don't even think children would like him. His voice can make a parent scream within 2 minutes! There must be better album for children than this!
