This review was originally posted on Big Al's Books and Pals review blog on December 19, 2012 Widowed police officer Jason Devlin seems to be having trouble keeping a babysitter for his baby girl, twenty-month-old Gina. When Katie Smyth shows up on his doorstep looking for a nanny position he thinks he has hit the jackpot, not only is she beautiful, but she is willing to keep the house clean too. What Katie doesn't know is that Jason’s previous in-laws live right next door. What Jason doesn't know is that Katie is hiding out and keeping a very big secret. I really liked Jason and my heart ached for him and his situation. Not only for the loss of his wife, but for the fact that his previous in-laws lived next door. No wonder he was having such a hard time keeping a baby sitter. Katie was the perfect woman for Jason, she was smart and kind-hearted, but she was keeping some very big secrets from him. The struggles she had with her lies were very revealing of her character; you can tell this author has a very good understanding of human nature in many situations. In each of the books of this series, there is at least one chapter devoted to the guys getting together to talk about kids, women, or whatever else is going on in their lives. The conversations between these three friends were very entertaining, they have known each other for several years and they don’t hesitate to poke the bear, whoever that may be at the time. I found the dialogue realistic and quite funny. The story moved at a nice steady pace and I found the dilemmas being faced real and quite engrossing. I love the way Ms. Fasano is turning up the heat in her stories. I am finding them very satisfying and I didn't want to put the book down. **Originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. This is Book 2 of 3 about three single dads that find love... Storylines were OK and characters were fine but I found all three very predictable and not really realistic.. I had just finished a really great book so perhaps I am being a bit tough on these three which I read in less than two days... They are all short in length.. and very easy reading... Not books I will read again so I will delete them from my library... Sorry!

In the second installment of the Single Daddy Club, Donna Fasano shares more of Jason’s story with us.  In the midst of yet another babysitter crisis, Katie appears at his door.  With her reference from a friend at the hospital, and him nearly ready to drop from exhaustion if he doesn’t break his neck on the clutter, he hires her instantly.  What Katie doesn’t know is that Jason’s in laws are the next door neighbors, and they have been badgering younger and capable sitters, and suggesting older women who are not able to keep up with his very active little girl, Gina.  What Jason doesn’t know is that Katie is hiding secrets of her own, and she has never been paid for any of the ‘work’ she has done.  Throughout the story, we get to see Jason’s inability to move forward: the combination of his guilt at the death of his wife and his mother in laws constant intrusions, not to mention her harassment of his chosen babysitters.  What was more telling was Katie’s realization and pity for the monster that his mother in law had become; showing a great deal of sense and patience while logically attempting to address the misfires in the communication between them.   Their attraction was instantaneous, but what drove and fueled their connection was the fact that they were developed as very real people, with real concerns that make mistakes, yet still have good hearts and intentions.  Each title that I read from Donna Fasano becomes my favorite, and this was no exception. Her characters, situations and her ability to incorporate real life family and child issues into her stories will have every parent empathizing and recognizing pieces of themselves.  The bonus point is that her happy endings give us all hope for our own, even for the short while we are immersed in worlds of her creation.    I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
