I've had a turbulent last year and I wanted to explore meditation as a source of healing and achieving tranquility. Yet, I didn't know how to start. I found this book at my local yoga ashram and I loved it. It explains meditation to people like me, that know absolutely *nothing* about it. It takes you step by step and makes meditation an achievable goal rather than an obscure transcendental state only achieved by gurus. It addresses everything from where and when to meditate, to different ways to meditate, to troubleshooting obstacles that may present themselves (i.e. your mind wandering off, or intrusive thoughts hampering your concentration, and even dozing off), and different mantras that can be used to start you off. This is a fantastic book that I would recommend to anyone who wants to explore alternative ways to quell anxiety and reach a level of calm without medication.
