    Small Book With a BIG Impact

    Being a cardiac rehab nurse, and spending a lot of time each day trying to get people to change their lifestyles to create better health, this book caught my eye. After reading it, I found the principles instantly useful for me to use at work. They can help anyone get motivated to get past the barriers that keep them from making changes to improve their health. Additionally, the book is short and to the point which is good for a busy Mom like myself.

    If you want more info on it before purchasing, I suggest you check out some these links- you just can't find much bad written about this neat little book!!

    Simple, no-nonsense advice.

    This book's strong point is that it is based completely on information from peer-reviewed journals and controlled trials. In under 100 pages, most people will likely gain the necessary tools they need to motivate themselves or others. Additionally, a helpful worksheet is included that sums up the book's principles and guides the reader through the motivational process. One note though. Readers who zip through the book and don't bother to honestly reflect on the questions at the end of the book will probably NOT get much from it.

    It works.

    Not getting all you can from your workouts because you're bored? Can't lose weight because you could never stay on a diet plan long enough to see great results? Do you lack sufficient discipline to finally get yourself to kick that bad habit? Are your finances a mess because you can't control your spending? Is your health deteriorating because you can't get yourself to make healthy changes? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, you can bebefit from this book. While these problems may seem impossible to solve, they're not IF you know the solution- motivation. That's what this book is all about- making the impossible possible by teaching you how to motivate yourself to do all the things you never could before. You DO have the power to motivate yourself- and its quite similar to turning on a light switch. You just don't know how yet!

    Great way to get motivated

    Along with helping to build my motivation, this little book was straight to the point and very easy to read. In this short story, the author combines his personal experience, and research to convey the importance of motivation through how ready the person is to change their daily habits for the better. The author tells about the patients he encountered during an internship opportunity and how change (no matter how big or small) helped them become motivated to do better. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels as if small change wouldn't be significant in their life. This book would dramatically change their opinion and make them want to strive for a better lifestyle. The Sixty-Second Motivator offers its readers simple steps (referred to as "secrets") to follow through with their improvement. It was enjoyable to read and very eye opening!

    common sense

    It is something all of us already know - common sense. The reason I liked it is because sometimes all of us need a reminder to act! Yes, we know all this stuff, yet, we aren't realizing that it's so; therefore not acting. But I would say if you need help with motivation - read it! It's simply helping you realize why you aren't acting and what you need to do to act. Helps you understand what's important to you and what is not.

    my missing link

    Having read Jim Johnson's No Beach No Zone weight loss book, I knew WHAT to do, plain and simple, and WHY it was important. So why wasn't I doing what the book laid out as a proven plan for weight loss? It's all about motivation. There's even a chapter on motivation in his weight loss book - but this book takes it one step further, into the science of motivation. Personally I think both books dovetail into one another well, especially if your lack of motivation happens to be in the field of losing weight. The science of how to lose weight permanently, and the science of motivating yourself to do anything. Once again, this is all based on research and not what one guy thinks. One of the best surprises about this book is the way it is written. Without giving away too much, I can tell you that this book is more of a story than a collection of facts, and reads almost like a mystery. One thing's for sure, it's extremely engaging. I read the whole think in one sitting the research and strategy don't take volumes to explain or lay out. I'm not one to read huge volumes, and Jim Johnson always makes a concise read devoid of medical mumbo-jumbo. The actual motivation chart takes up one page and really makes you think about what makes your own self 'tick'. The only excuse for not getting motivated is if you aren't willing to give up one hour of your time, and a little more time spent thinking straight.

    How to make lasting changes for a better you.

    This book is written by a physical therapist who has had some 14 years of experience working in a hospital trying to get sick patients motivated to exercise, get back on their feet again, and get on with their lives. Through his experiences and research of the exisiting motivation literature, he has come up with what the book calls a 'motivation formula.' By using this formula, the physical therapist found that not only could he consistently get his patients motivated to get moving again, but could also use it to get people in general motivated to make other lasting changes in their lives- such as eating healthier, exercising regularly, getting disciplined to run a marathon, meet financial goals and so on. What was even more interesting about this book was the way the formula and its principles (and many examples) are presented. Instead of relaying this information to the reader in standard self-help fashion, the book chooses to convey the information through a simple, short story. I for one, found this to make the information and principles very easy to understand, as well as fun to read, especially because the story centers around many practical, real-life examples. Younger readers will also appreciate this format, however, some people may not care for it entirely. A short, yet potentially very useful book, perhaps its most important point is this: all the information we have at our fingertips in today's information age on how to live a better life and change ourselves for the better is really useless if we can't put it into action. To that end, the book not only explains once and for all just why people have trouble doing the things that they know are good for them, but offers a very simple approach to getting people motivated to make lasting changes in their lives.

    The Sixty Second Motivator - Book Review.

    Both my husband and I enjoyed this book a lot. We found it to be a neat, well organized little book written in an easy-to-understand, straight-forward style that is genuinely enjoyable while at the same time providing valuable insights about why we do or do not do things. While we found it quite analytical about key factors concerning motivation, the book didn't make us feel intimidated or 'preached at'. The tone of the book came across to us as friendly, low-key, very helpful, analytical and a valuable 'keeper' to refer to in life's future situations.

    Motivation- the missing key.

    While there are lots of books showing us how to lose weight, manage our time better, or kick bad habits, let's face it- all this good information is virtually worthless if a person can't put it into action. And that's what makes this such a great book- it helps fill that gap. It says that motivation is the 'fuel' that propels one to change whatever behavior it is they need to. Then, through a short story, it shows the reader two simple strategies they can use to immediately increase their motivation and thus finally start making changes for the better. For anybody wanting a book that will help them put into action all the good advice they've ever been given about improving their marriage, dieting, financial planning or whatever- this book is for you.

    Lives up to the title.

    This is just a simple little book that takes a close look at what motivates people and then tells you how to motivate yourself to do anything. The book focuses on changing one's health behaviors, such as getting yourself motivated to eat better or exercise more, but the principles it contains can be used to get oneself motivated to do just about anything. A fun, quick read, its a good book to pass along to friends.
