Gr 9 Up-A teen novel with a strong Christian conversion/reconciliation message. Taren, 16, is just getting used to her dad's return after nine years away, somewhere. She reluctantly joins her church's youth group on a hiking trip in the Montana mountains, but when her dad appears as a guide, she almost quits the expedition. Tragedy strikes when two kids slide down a boulder onto rocks and water below. Naturally, they are OK, and Taren begins to strengthen bonds with her father. Oh, and the nonbeliever tour guide accepts Jesus and pinpoints his "moment of salvation." This predictable story, almost an excuse to push a salvation message within an action novel, is for a very conservative readership looking for fundamentalist Christian themes.-Linda Beck, Indian Valley Public Library, Telford, PA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
