Overview

New Adult Paranormal Romance by bestselling author Kristie Cook ** Mature Content ** Recommended for ages 16+ due to sexual situations and language

First installment of The Book of Phoenix trilogy. Part 2, The Space Beyond, available now, and Part 3 coming Summer 2014.

When Life Falls to Pieces, Answers Lie in the Space Between

After a month-long dance tour overseas, Leni returns to Georgia to care for her great-uncle, only to find him gone, their home empty, and any evidence he ever existed wiped out. All that remains is her truck and a leather-bound book she can't open. Nearly as disturbing, she keeps running into the deaf and dangerously sexy model she'd met in Italy, and no matter how hard she tries to shake him, her soul won't let her.

Jeric has traveled the world in search of a piece of his past for over a year, only to reach a dead-end in Georgia ... in the exact town where the beautiful dancer from Italy lives. He's drawn to her like a moth to a flame, but his life as a loner in his silent world allows no room for girlfriends, and he tries to leave her. Except outside forces won't let him.

When the same "tattoos" suddenly appear on their arms and the book's lock falls open, Leni and Jeric realize there's more between them than physical fascination. They must embark on a journey together to discover their connection to each other and their ties to the Book of Phoenix.

And they must figure it all out fast. Shadowy forms that are more monsters than men are closing in, while their own existences are falling to pieces around them.

This first part of The Book of Phoenix takes you on a heart-wrenching ride as you discover the answers that lie in The Space Between.

Not my favorite of her books

I wanted to like this book. I really, really wanted to like it. But for me, it was just ok. There was so much going on and so much back and forth.
The concept was interesting. But as much as I hate to say it, I'm not all that interested in the next book in the series. :(

The Space Between is Part one of The Book of Phoenix, a new paranormal romance series by Kristie Cook, bestselling author of The Soul Savers Series. I'm already a huge fan of Kristie's earlier work, but was curious to see how she would do with a whole new set of characters and circumstances. Well, question answered. She ROCKED IT! The character development is amazing. Kristie has found a way to get us inside the heads of her characters so fully that we feel their joy, their pain, all of their emotions as though the are our own. Add to this a completely unique story with a paranormal twist and you've got a book that will keep you up at night until the last page is turned. I highly recommend this book!

I have never read anything from this author before, but I definitely will in the future. There were so many things going on in this book that I want to mention. How cool is it to find a journal? Especially one you can not open. What happened to Leni's great-uncle? The important question is why, not how, was he wiped out of existence? Leni should have stayed in Italy. I thought about her great-uncle a lot. Where was he? Was he even alive still? How is Leni going to open the journal and find out about him? If the journal is about him. As I was reading through the book I almost forgot about the journal. there was so much other good stuff going on.

Leni met Jeric. After that waiting is all they other can do not to find each other again. There was more than an attraction, it was a pull. Just when I was ready to give up on Jeric, they meet again. How could Leni not want this sexy man. Jeric can not stop thinking of Leni either. As the book went on it was obvious that this was not just love. There was a cosmic reason they met. It was even more than fate. Their love gave new meaning to soul mate. The way the author wrote the paranormal aspects of this book made me believe!

These are not normal characters in a book. The author wrote them so animated that at times I felt like I was inside the book with them. I definitely really liked this book. The ending was good too. I am giving this book a 5/5! I can not wait to get the sequel! I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own!!!

    Also what a cool cover!

Kristie pens "The Space Between" the first book in 'The Book of Phoenix' series,  in an unique and original plot in her own amazing writing style. Her characters were very well developed and they draw you right into the story line as though you were right there. This book had me crying and laughing throughout and had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait for the next installment to come.

Book of the Phoenix #1- totally sold me on this new paranormal series! Leni and Jeric- their first introduction to each other (where they actually speak to each other) will capture your attention and leave you curious, enough so that you just want to know more. Add in the characters Jacey and Micah- their storyline fills in a few blanks and sets the bar for some serious chemistry!
I'm not a big fan of reincarnation stories- but the intensity, the memories both stolen and remembered, the chemistry and adventure will ensure you finish it in one sitting and leave you wanting more!

This is a good book. Good "destiny" type of theme going on. I've read the Soul Saver series and found I enjoyed it much more than this book. However, I did like this one too and plan to read the next installment when it is released. The story line keeps you interested so that you want to finish the book and find out all the answers why are main characters are drawn to one another. Really enjoyed the story within the story (Micah & Jacey). So really you get two romance stories all rolled into one book.

    Brilliantly written!

There are not enough words in English (and in Estonian which is my mother tong) to describe how much I loved this book. Kristie has done it again and written an awesome, magical and mesmerizing story! The plot is fantastic and the way she has waved it together is absolutely brilliant. Since I have read all her other books, I thought it might be difficult for her to surprise me, but she did it. Her storytelling skills are fabulous and I also found new things in her writing style. There is lots of humor in The Space Between and I giggled and laughed out loud many times while reading the book and this is the side of Kristie's writing which I have not seen that strongly before - the book is in the same time funny and also thrilling! Besides that I was awed how good Kristie is at writing a mystery book, she grabs your attention from the very beginning and increases the tension and builds it step by step until your curiosity can't hold it anymore! Wonderfully written story that you will never ever forget! Plot: The story begins with introducing you to Leni - a dancer, who is finally living her secret dream: she is dancing in a troupe in Italy. When on her way home to US, she meets a guy - Jeric - in the airport. It is a brief meeting, but it leaves behind so many unanswered questions. Why is there such a strong pull between them? Why is it so difficult for them to go separate ways? Time shows, that Leni and Jeric meet again. In the meantime, Leni has arrived home to her great-uncle, and strange things start to happen. Leni's uncle has vanished and nobody seems to remember anything about her uncle and what's even worse - nobody seems to remember Leni either. The only item she finds, is a journal. Journal, which brings Leni and Jeric back together again and leads them to a journey which is beyond dangerous. Their world changes when they finally find a way to open the journal. It takes them from Now to Then... and they meet with Jacey and Micah. This is where I stop, because I'm afraid I will give away too much with my excitement! You need to read The Space Between yourself to find out what's going to happen. I loved how the author changes between the point of views between the characters, there are a clear and distinct differences of voices of Leni, Jeric, Micah and Jacey. I also loved the two storylines Now and Then. Then takes you back to 80s which was fun to read because the author is doing an excellent work with describing the 80s with all its weird and funky lifestyle. The most amazing part of the book is when the author decides to bring Now and Then together and I have to admit, that as much as I guessed, I never saw that coming! Characters: I am sure that you have already understood my fondness to the story. Have patience with me, because I LOVED the characters! That is exactly what makes Kristie a great author - she puts as much effort to the plot as to the characters, you feel that she has given a lot of herself to balance between keeping the plot captivating and characters alive. She brings the characters alive, they are colorful, vivid, they have their flaws, but at the end of the day, you will love them! You will feel their happiness, their pain, their excitement, their horror - they are written with emotions and that makes this book one of the best I've ever read!

Kristie Cook spices up the popular subject of souls, romantic reincarnation, of love that spans lifetimes. The first in her all new Book of Phoenix series, The Space Between, is another addition to the new adult genre that the world will embrace with willing arms.

Leni's last day in Italy, when her dream of dancing on stage comes to a close, she comes face to face with Jeric Winters. Their meeting seems like fate but the connection is instant. When Jeric and Leni part ways they never expect to see each other again, especially not in Leni's hometown in Georgia. When life starts getting weird for them both they find that they only have each other, a locked journal, and mysterious tattoos.

The Space Between is more contemporary romance with supernatural elements than an all out adventurous fantasy. Though the story takes readers back to the past, to show the connection between Leni and Jeric's past lives as Jacey and Micah, it didn't feel like the story took off until the last ten to fifteen chapters. Reincarnation can be a tricky storyline to get into more so when readers have to relive the same story twice. Even with tweaks and differences, it takes the edge off the excitement of the plot. I really had a hard time getting through Jacey and Micah's chapters, especially knowing that I was reading something completely similar to what I'd just read about Leni and Jeric or what would be coming.

Despite the structure of the story, there are elements of characterization that spoke volumes about the uniqueness of Cook's writing style. Jeric and Leni have tough pasts, tragic and complex. Cook's characters have depth that shows in their actions as well as their thoughts and feelings. I loved that the most solid aspect of their connection was sign language. Jeric had to learn to sign because of hearing loss and Leni learned to better communicate with an older family member. It's not often that I get a chance to find a story like The Space Between that presents characters with physical challenges or some other aspect that's makes them more relatable as real, every-day people.

Cook is an author that charms her readers with thoughtful plots and tantalizing characters. The Space Between is especially perfect for readers who strongly love stories about souls and reincarnation.

Kristie Cook is one of my very favorite authors. I was worried, I didn't think anything could compete with her Soul Savers series, but she did it again! She has a style of writing that sucks you right into the book. You feel a part of that world and that of the characters. Every emotion they feel, so do you. This series is a totally different style than Soul Savers, but every bit as excellent. Not only do you get entrapped in the love and passion of one couple, but you get two!! Definitely swoon-worthy! Plus, you will not be able to stop turning the pages, because there are so many questions to be answered. You will keep guessing but won't be able to truly put it together till the end. And what a cliffhanger, as always. Leaves you panting for the next book. Kristie has a habit of doing that to us!
I had the Honor to beta-read this book, and even the very rough draft was perfect!!

The Space Between by Kristie Cook

This novel is part one of The Book of the Phoenix. It is the story of Leni and Jeric, or so the reader thinks. As the book goes on, we find that it is not only their story, but the story of Jacey and Micah, Guardians, Warriors, who protect the universe from evil. So many mysteries and so much evil abound in their stories. The book is intriguing and hard to put down!

Leni and Jeric meet in Italy when Leni is dancing with a ballet troop there, a long time dream of hers. She feels drawn to him in a way that she has never felt drawn to anyone before. But, thinks she will never see him again as she is to leave for the states and home the next day. A series of coincidences, or are they? bring them together again, and again.

Strange occurrences continue to throw them together, along with a book that tells a strange story. Will they follow their hearts and the pull that they feel to each other, or will they destroy what has been for centuries? Will evil win this day?

This book drew me in from the beginning. I found it hard to put it down, and was intrigued by all the twists and turns and the dual storyline. I can't wait for the next book, as the characters are well written and the plot is intriguing.

    5 stars!

    Unforgettable!
This is a completely new take on the idea of a timeless love story with a paranormal twist unlike any other. The connection between the two characters is bone deep and resonates beautifully. I will never forget this novel. I can't say too much or I will give away the plot, which is mysterious and filled with fantastic ups and downs. Fans of Denise Grover Swank's CHOSEN series will love this.

delivers with this first book in her new series The Book of Phoenix! There were moments that had me laughing out loud and literally
screaming out loud at these characters! Leni is a good girl who takes care of her great uncle, whose dream is to dance professionally.
Jeric is a bad boy who takes care of every woman that he crosses paths with. ;) What on Earth could these two possibly have in
