This excellently titled album, released in 1987 but recorded between 1981 and 1985, predates the whole tongue-in-cheek "incredibly strange music" underground of the late '90s by well over a decade. These instrumental versions of songs like Tomorrow's "My White Bicycle" and the 13th Floor Elevators' "Slip Inside This House" are deadpan recreations of the sort of faux-ethnic instrumental music that was so popular in the days of hi-fis and martinis. The parody works on both levels, and there's such obvious affection for the songs and the styles being parodied that the album lacks the sort of obvious "we're so clever" vibe that often capsizes projects like that.
