Mark Tufo is an upcoming writer who is already to the level of Dean Koontz, Brian Keene and other noted horror genre writers who are excellent story tellers. The Sprit Clearing is the type of tale that rips your emotions through a roller coaster ride while scaring the beejus out of you. As is his other books (Zombie Fallout and Indian Hill series, Timothy, and The Life of Riley) his tale is down to earth hitting us where it is scary even in broad daylight and where it hurts. If you enjoy being scared give this book a read - I couldn't put it down.

This was a haunting story of a young man's life following a horrific car crash. I can't really describe the story without giving too much away. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put my Nook down. The story is so deep and twisted that it reminds me of a Stephen King novel. The characters are complex and the story will remain with me for a very long time. Tufo is definately one to watch. Although I've enjoyed his other books, this one truly showcases his talent for spinning stories that are scary, sad and beautiful. How many writers can do that? -Kathleen

I have read every book by Mark and have NEVER been disappointed. I started with the ZF series, then I read the Indian Hill Trilogy, even The Book of Riley...which is from an animal's point of view kept me entertained. Now this book here is something totally different, and I could not put the book down once I started it, which is the case for ALL of his books. I love how you become attached to the characters and sometimes I catch myself saying things out loud about something that has happened or something someone said. All in all another excellent story and 5 stars all the way!

>>This was totally not what I was expecting! It is an eerie tale beautifully entertwined with a heartbreaking love story. So many twists and turns. It is hard to explain the depths this story explores. I loved every minute of it!

This is a great book. I have read all of Mark Tufo's books and they were all good. His books broadened me from reading nothing but sci fi into horror and suspence. I was not able to put this one down until i finished it. The characters and story line draw you in and dont let go. Thanks Mark for a book that will be read many time. -Dale

The book was interesting but I did not like the ending. For me it left too many questions. It was very weird book. I don't know if I will read any more.

I have read the majority of Mark Tufo's books (on my Nook and Fire) and love them. I ordered this one directly through him b/c after reading reviews, I was intrigued. It was way more than I was expecting! Scary, emotional and surprising!! Way different than his other books, for the most part, but fantastic!! IMHO...It would make a great movie!! Thanks, once again, Mr. Tufo! This was a great read!!

This is my first Mark Tufo book and I was not disappointed. I avoided his other books due to the zombie theme but the supernatural twist to this novel intrigued me enough to risk putting up with the occasional zombie, which turned out to be unnecessary. The book is not free of the living dead of course and Mark Tufo’s easy and entertaining narrative style is definitely an encouragement towards trying his other books. Marks characters are all very well developed, the emotional roller-coaster that is the result of Mark’s accident and the way he copes with his new found ‘disability’ are very well portrayed, as are the relationships that Mike forges with the other characters in the book. While this is clearly a horror, Mike’s relationship with Jandilyn and Jed are very uplifting and humorous and it is this humour that crates a ‘pleasant’ balance between the characteristic tension created by the ‘horror’ mode and the anticipation of what will befall Mike next. I particularly liked the role of the ‘bathroom’ in the narrative, it was impossible not to view showers with a bit of suspicion during my listening of this book, Hitchcock has certainly set up our horror expectations in reference to bathrooms and Mark Tufo takes full advantage of this. About half of way through the book, on a midnight bathroom run and just as I was doubting the book’s ability to give me the hibijibis, I found even my remarkably ordinary shower curtain threatening and considered quitting reading the book lest I compromised my personal hygiene for ever. The audio-book is narrated by Sean Runnette who has a very clear and easy to listen to voice, his narration is excellent. This is the first book I’ve listened to narrated by him and I will certainly look out for his work as his ability to portray emotion definitely enriches the narrative. Mark Tufo’s The Spirit Clearing contains everything a reader will expect form the horror mode of fiction and more, I was not only pleasantly surprised by Mark’s easy amalgamation of humour and warmth with the suspense of horror but also that the plot had some very unpredictable twists. This book is well worth a listen. Audiobook provided for review by the publisher. If you don't like bad language, be aware that this one uses the f word quite a bit. For the most part its a good book and is holding my interest, but I don't like reading bad language and am not sure if I will stick with it or not. I don't know why some writers feel the need to include bad language. It can be just as good without it. I appreciate knowing this before I buy a book, so I thought I'd let others know.

Great book, it was a real page turner.  The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star rating was I was a little confused at the ending.  The ending came up so fast, that I thought I missed a few pages.

Awesome writing, and loved the characters as always. But the story was just ok, and I hate to say it about one of is books, but I kind of got bored. I guess I was expecting to be terrified, but didnt even get goosebumps. I kept bracing myself for something that never came. Still love the author, read everything of his but this one wont be archived with the rest.

This is the first story I've read by this author and it will not be the last. I don’t actually cry while reading books, but this one did make my eyes water a couple of times (Jed and Jandilyn). This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster. You will go from feeling sad and happy to laughing or in suspense. There are so many twist and turns, so many things that make you wonder, a lot of whys? Why did this happen? Why did this person(s) react this way they did? Just a lot of things to make you think and when I read the last few pages of the last chapter my jaw just dropped open. I had to read it again.
