Overview

Nine-year-old twins Andy and Zach spit everywhere - at the girls on the playground, on their way to school, while they play ball. To make them think about this behavior, their teacher describes all the animals that spit: llamas, archer fish, clams, camels, fruit bats, tiny millipedes who spit acid, and Indian Spitting Cobras who spit venom into predators' eyes and blind them. When she asks them if they might be not boys, but animals, and follows up with the fact that the baseball players they idolize spit nasty tobacco, it makes them think. The Spitting Twins takes a sensitive approach to a difficult behavioral problem. Kulka's beautiful color illustrations complement the story.
